This page contains lists of articles and images which are recommended for deletion. Any Wikitraveller can recommend an article or image for deletion, and any Wikitraveller can comment on the deletion nomination. Articles and images are presumed guilty until proven innocent. After fourteen (14) days of discussion, if a consensus is reached to retain an article, it won't be deleted. Otherwise it will be deleted by an administrator. Please read the Nominating and Commenting sections prior to nominating articles/images or commenting on nominations.

The basic format for a deletion nomination is the following:

* '''Delete'''. Not a valid travel article topic. ~~~~

Please follow these steps when nominating an article or image for deletion:

  1. First read the deletion policy and verify that the article or image really is a candidate for deletion. If you are unsure, bring up the issue on the talk page.
  2. For the article or image being proposed for deletion, add a {{vfd}} tag so that people viewing the article will know that it is proposed for deletion. The {{vfd}} tag must be the very first thing in the article, right at the very top, before everything else.
  3. Add a link to the article or image at the end of the list below, along with the reason why it is being listed for deletion. Sign your vote using four tildes ("~~~~"). List one article or image per entry.
  4. If you're nominating an image for deletion, make sure it's actually located on the English Wikitravel - images that are located on Wikitravel Shared must be nominated for deletion there instead.

All Wikitravellers are asked to state their opinion about articles and images listed for deletion. The format for comments is:

* '''Delete'''. Not a valid travel article topic. TravelNut 25:25, 31 Feb 2525 (EDT)
* '''Keep'''. There is a town in [[Alaska]] called Chicken. ~~~~

When leaving comments:

  1. First read the deletion policy and verify that the article or image really is a candidate for deletion.
  2. You may vote to delete, keep, or redirect the article. If your opinion is that the article should be kept or redirected, please state why. If you are in favor of redirection, you may suggest where it should be redirected to. Sign your vote using four tildes ("~~~~").

Deleting, or not

After fourteen (14) days of discussion, there will probably be consensus one way or the other. If the consensus is to keep, redirect or merge, then any Wikitraveller can do it. If you are redirecting, please remember to check for broken redirects or double redirects as a result of your move. Remove any VFD notices from that page, and archive the deletion discussion as described in the next section.

If the result is delete, then only an administrator can delete. Check if any article links to the image or article in question. After removing those links, delete the image or article. However, if the image is being deleted because it has been moved to the shared repository with the same name, do not remove links to the images, as the links will be automatically be pointed to the shared repository.

After you keep/redirect/merge/delete the article, move the deletion discussion to the Archives page for the appropriate month. The root Archives page has a directory. Note that it's the month in which the action was taken, rather than when the nomination was first posted, that should be used for the archived discussion; that way, recourse to the deletion log can lead subsequent readers right to the discussion (at least for the pages that were deleted).

If the nominated article was not deleted, then place another (identical duplicate) copy of the deletion discussion on the talk page of the article being kept or redirected.

I am the creator of this map and I want this to be deleted . I created this map for other travel guide wiki. since WT is not attributing properly to other travel guide wiki when copy paste material from that site to here, I don't want my map to be used here...—The preceding comment was added by (talkcontribs)

Hello Ip! The map cannot be deleted because it's uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (not Wikitravel Shared) with Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 license that allows to share it on other wiki- projects. Karachi district map is properly attributed on Wikitravel which means that WIkitravel does not breach any right to feature it in our Karachi article. Alton Towers

As a rule, restaurants, hotels, bars and sights don't get their own articles on Wikitravel. -- 17:24, 15 February 2014 (EST)

  • Keep see exceptions in Wikitravel:What is an article? - "Big free-standing theme parks...". Alton Towers is one of the biggest theme parks in the UK, and most visitors spend a full day there. So I think that it qualifies for an article. If you disagree please explain, and identify where you wish to merge the existing content to. AlasdairW (talk) 13:20, 16 February 2014 (EST)
  • Keep. The theme park/resort is a major attraction, and many visitors stay overnight or visit the area just for Alton Towers, so I believe it qualifies as a full article - see the exception note above. Ogp (talk) 17:11, 16 February 2014 (EST)
I see that you are developing the article now so that I hope in future it is less touty and conforms more closely to our Mos. I'll withdraw my nomination in the hope it becomes a better article. -- 18:52, 16 February 2014 (EST)
  • Keep, for the reasons already mentioned above. Since is withdrawing his nomination, the Vote for Deletion message can be removed from the article, no need to wait the full 2 weeks. Adzas (talk) 10:34, 17 February 2014 (EST)

Kolleru Lake

Per Wikitravel:What is an article#What does not get its own article? insignificant bodies of water like this one in India don't usually get their own articles - especially if the creator just intends bringing in huge chunks of copypasta from Wikipedia! Redirect to the nearest settlement we have an article about. --Ttcf (talk) 17:33, 24 February 2014 (EST)

  • Comment: Admins may want to keep a special watch on the contributions of User:Satyam555 since he has also created Dindi(కోనసీమ) which is a (wrongly named) unattributed copy-pasta job from Wikipedia about a delta... --Ttcf (talk) 17:59, 24 February 2014 (EST)

Query: I hope you won't think it a frivolous quibble but, according to policy, shouldn't there have been a pause of 14 days to hear counter-arguments before deleting this article? --Ttcf (talk) 19:22, 11 March 2014 (EDT)

Vacation photography

This seems to be an article created with the sole intention of getting a link to the TripShooter Photographers business by User:UnrulyLouise. No harm in that you might say, if it also benefits the traveller. The difficulty that I have is that, apart from wedding photography (which is already covered, I think), it must be a very small subset of travellers that, rather than take their own pictures, ask a professional to come along and document their holidays. Indeed I very much question the accuracy of the current lead definition "Vacation photography is the use of professional photographers to take photographs of people on vacation." I can't really see that this stub article contains valuable material and, presumably now that User:UnrulyLouise's marketing efforts have been noticed, I doubt she (or anyone else) will have any interest in developing this article beyond the "embarassing stub" stage. If they do, I would suggest this vfd be without prejudice to the re-creation of a genuine travel topic article. --Ttcf (talk) 19:20, 11 March 2014 (EDT)

  • Keep. Vacation photography is a new and emerging service for tourists and travelers and there are many (hundreds) of photographers who offer this service around the world. They may easily be found with a simple google search. There are also many recent articles on the growing trend for vacation photographers which may be found in the same way.The assumption that it is a very small subset of travelers that ask a professional to document their holidays is an entirely subjective statement of the voter, with no understanding of the market and no evidence to support him.. UnrulyLouise (talk) 02:29, 12 March 2014 (EDT)
    • Questions: 1) Is it really such a complex and nuanced topic that it needs an article to explain the whole concept to travellers and, if so
      2) Why is it necessary to list "vacation photographers" in this article (or in multiple individual destination articles) when, by your own admission, "They may easily be found with a simple google search"?
      3) You're presumably in the industry; do you have any objective figures? --Ttcf (talk) 04:58, 12 March 2014 (EDT)
The topic itself could be a nice travel topic, but in my opinion that would be about how to take great vacation pictures, and great photo opportunity locations, but the current definition that is used seems incorrect, as also mentioned above by Ttcf. I suggest to remove the current content completely and start with adding new content that does benefit the traveler. Adzas (talk) 10:59, 12 March 2014 (EDT)
Tctf it clearly is a complex and nuanced topic that requires clarification for Adzas's following comment that it would be akin to a piece on how to take good travel photos. One is called "travel photography" and this is very different to "vacation photography". Have a cursory look at the classification of a travel photographer vs a vacation photographer. A travel photographer is akin to a street photographer - they take images of locals in exotic locations. A vacation photographer takes photos of people travelling to a foreign place, with their consent. With respect, you do not ask a Wikitravel entry on something such as "tours" to be redefined as "ways you can walk around a city yourself". Clearly they are two different things. In terms of objective evidence, I refer you to Google because I am not able to provide links in this forum. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by UnrulyLouise (talkcontribs) 05:43, 13 March 2014‎ (EDT)
UnrulyLouise: Although we call this page "Votes for deletion", we've traditionally operated more like a hanging judge here with articles presumed guilty until proven innocent and then, unless a consensus is reached to retain an article within 14 days, it being deleted. That's one reason each editor doesn't usually "vote" more than once - so I'd be grateful if you would remove your second, emboldened "Keep" heading immediately above... --Ttcf (talk) 20:24, 13 March 2014 (EDT)
  • If we want an article about using professional photographers on vacation, then it would have to say how to contact a photogapher without using an agency. This is similar to our tour policy where we prefer people to be able to walk around themselves: "If a traveller could fulfil the substance of the tour on their own, the tour should not be listed!" I would be much more interested in seeing an article on how to take such photos so that two couples could arrange this at breakfast and then spend the morning taking photos of each other. AlasdairW (talk) 19:56, 13 March 2014 (EDT)
There might be scope for a tiny update to our Travel photography article then Alasdair? --Ttcf (talk) 20:24, 13 March 2014 (EDT)
Further to UnrulyLouise´s comments, when I google "Vacation photography" and "Travel photography", similar articles come up, about how to take great vacation/travel pictures, I feel both terms can be used when it comes to taking pictures yourself, and as a travel topic it would be interesting in my opinion to know how to take such photos, as I mentioned above. I checked the travel topics before to see if we already had an article about this, but somehow I didn´t see it, but it seems we do have an article already about this so why not work on that one, we can even add a small section there about the availability of professional photographers for those interested.
