To delete an article or image, a Wikitraveller should do any preparatory work (like orphaning an image, or combining the article with one it duplicates) and then put a link, with reasons for deleting, at the bottom of this page. Please list one page or image per entry.

Make sure your vote for deletion is in accord with our deletion policy. Other contributors can discuss whether the article or image should be deleted. Articles and images are presumed guilty until proven innocent. After fourteen (14) days of discussion, if a consensus is reached to retain an article, it won't be deleted. Otherwise it will be deleted by an administrator.

  • Places for hithiking This attempts to be a list of all places on the planet where one might usefully situate oneself for hitchhiking. (Ignore the mispelling since that's not the point). Discussion regarding whether to bother preserving any of the content is at Talk:Places for hithiking. -- Colin 16:17, 10 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • Delete. (I support moving the content to the Get out section of the mentioned cities, and will start doing this unless there's a different consensus on the talk page.) -- Hypatia 17:51, 10 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • Delete. What Hypatia said. B-) --Evan 18:17, 10 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • yes, delete. I think it makes sense to also have this content in Get out on country pages though. -- Mark 04:01, 21 Nov 2004 (EST)
  • User:Hansm/Sandbox and all pages linked from there. Well, it's a lot and probably somewhat boring to copy them all to the vfd. - It was the place of birth for de:Wikitrvel, but now, since it is orphaned, it seems to become a paradise for spamers. There's a good chance that spam remains undetected here. -- Hansm 14:48, 2004 Nov 11 (EST)
    • Delete. I agree that it's boring, but I'm going to copy all the pages here anyway, so that the admins don't have to hunt for them. (Admins, if you disagree or find that this needlessly clutters vfd, by all means delete all the additions I will make below! -- Hypatia 17:55, 11 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • yes, delete (and thank you Hypatia for reducing the drudgery) -- Mark 04:01, 21 Nov 2004 (EST)
  • Cape Town International Airport. Not a destination. Jpatokal 11:47, 15 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • Hi, why should Cape Town International Airport be deleated? With the help of other users, it could become a evry helpful article. I, for myself, have often experienced flying to a place, without knowing what expects you. An airport is, in most cases, the first thing you see of a country. When not knowing what to do there, how to get there and where to fly to, facts can be a big help. Anon; Moved from Wikitravel talk:votes for deletion by Evan
      • Generally we don't do entire articles about airports. We have a section in each city article for information about getting in, getting from the airport to the "center" of town, etc. A good place to look for where we put various kinds of info is at Wikitravel:where you can stick it. You can get a good idea of what we like to make articles about at Wikitravel:What is an article?. --Evan 15:41, 16 Nov 2004 (EST)
      • I'm not sure that I can agree. Lots and lots of travellers visit major hub airports without ever visiting the cities attached to them. I think that major airports which serve as hubs should be covered as destinations in their own rights. Afterall they meet the rule-of-thumb: lots of people sleep there, either in hotels built into the airport or just in the chairs of the various waiting areas. That said the airports themselves aren't destinations in the classic sense, so I guess maybe the rule-of-thumb breaks down here, and we should just ignore everything I've said about them. -- Mark 16:15, 16 Nov 2004 (EST)
        • Some airports are so huge and/or so distant from their cities that they warrant their own pages: see Narita Airport and Kansai International Airport for two examples. I don't think CPT really qualifies for this status though.Jpatokal 07:35, 19 Nov 2004 (EST)

    • OK, delete, but only because this particular airport is not a destination (or a major hub). -- Mark 04:01, 21 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • Delete. As for Mark's comments, for large airports, except in cases where the airport is actually in a separate city or town like Narita, I think info about airport hotels and airport facilities could go in a district article -- a /Airport district if the city has no other appropriate district. -- Hypatia 20:32, 29 Nov 2004 (EST)
  • Enoden. Train lines don't get their own articles (except maybe the Trans-Siberian!). Jpatokal 01:39, 18 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • yes, delete. This does raise a potential point about means of travel with sleeping accommodation and our "what is a destination?" rule-of-thumb. Maybe we should clarify about trains, and cruises and the like. -- Mark 04:01, 21 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • Yes, delete. I copied the info to the relevant Get Around section. I'll remind that user about what is an article. -- Ted

  • Earth. We've already seen this joke, and I'm pretty sure the content is identical to the one deleted back in April. Previous discussion can be accessed with this link: [1] -- Colin 00:48, 21 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • If this is going to keep happening maybe we should take Huttite's advice from the first time and make this a complete list of countries and major destinations. That way we could both satisfy or quell the urge for people to make this joke, and have a new place to put stuff that exhuberant new users like to stick on the Main Page (I worry about the fragile feelings of brand-new users), otherwise I'm afraid we're going to wind up having the joke around pretty much all of the time with a VFD message on it. -- Mark 04:01, 21 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • I made it a redirect to Wikitravel:Mostly harmless joke. It may be more reasonable, as Mark suggests, to make it a link to List of countries. --Evan 12:53, 21 Nov 2004 (EST)
      • The redirect works for me. -- Colin 13:14, 21 Nov 2004 (EST)

  • Pasta. We don't do food articles... usually. -- Colin 10:51, 27 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • Delete. The travel topics are always a slippery slope: sometimes an initially unpromising article turns out to be a good topic. However, I think deleting travel topics that don't at least have signs of how they're going to develop into a useful general article for travellers is OK. This one is just a list of types of pasta. -- Hypatia 20:32, 29 Nov 2004 (EST)

  • ǽ‘站排名. This page already had the vfd message but I couldn't find it here. It's a non-English name that doesn't appear to be a legit destination, and it was created by a spammer. -- Hypatia 20:21, 29 Nov 2004 (EST)
    • Uh-oh. This is the second time this item has failed to delete. Must be a bug. Previous deletion by Evan: [3] and by PierreAbbat: [4]. (And once again I find that if I edit this page with Safari, it mucks up the link so I have to use Firefox instead.) -- Colin 02:14, 30 Nov 2004 (EST)
