Ware is in Hampshire County, Massachusetts.

Understand

Ware, Massachusetts is a small town located right between the Pioneer Valley and Worcester County. It is almost equidistant between the cites of Worcester and Springfield. Ware consists of 25,570 acres, or roughly 40 square miles.

Get in

Ware is accessible by car using Route 32 and Route 9. It is about twenty minutes from the nearest exit on I-90, Exit 8 (Palmer/Ware).

Get around

The downstair area of Ware is compact, so walking is an option. The most practical way of getting around is a car, since some of the more scenic and rural areas are a little farther out.

See

Quabbin Reservoir: Man made body of water. Created in 1938 by damming the Swift River and flooding four towns: Enfield, Dana, Greenwich, and Prescott. The Quabbin occupies land in 14 different towns, occupying 38.6 square miles of land. It is the largest inland body of water in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and supplies the city of Boston with its water supplies. During spring, summer, and autumn, a trip to the Quabbin is worthwhile. The different lookouts offer views overlooking the body of water. You can also see where the four flooded towns were, at the designated lookouts. The Quabbin is also home to the Quabbin Park Cemetery. This is an 82 acre site, holding over 7,000 graves from 8 different towns, including the ones destroyed from the flooding. This is also the site of different veteran memorials. The recreational opportunities at the Quabbin include: shoreline fishing (restricted), hiking, bicycling, walking, birdwatching, snowshoeing, hunting (restricted), scenic views, Look Out Tower, visitor center, and picnicking.

Grenville Park: 73 Church Street. Officially accepted into the Town of Ware in 1907. It was donated by one of Ware’s elite families, in honor of their son. The park underwent renovations in 2013. Grenville Park consists of over 100 acres. Within the 100 plus acres there are: 2 Little League Baseball fields, 1 multi-purpose field, 1 bandstand, 1 boat ramp, 2 handicap accessible fishing piers, 1 picnic pavilion, 6 picnic areas, 1 steel-framed playground area, 1 regulation sized basketball court, 2 miles of oil/stone roadways, wild-life viewing, and 80 acres of walking trails. Grenville Park is open year round, but the back section is closed to vehicular traffic seasonally.

Veteran’s Park: Main Street - At the intersections of Routes 9 and 32, adjacent from Town Hall. Once the site of the Mansion House hotel, the Veterans' Park footprint pays homage to the former landmark. The Mansion House was destroyed by fire in 1975 and Veterans' Park was constructed in its place in 1985. Twenty years later, the Town of Ware received a grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to renovate this historic monument. This memorial is a testament to how much Ware honors and values its veterans. In 2011, when Ware celebrated its 250th anniversary of incorporation, a Memorial Day parade culminated at Veterans' Park and a monument to our Revolutionary soldiers was dedicated by the Ware Historical Commission.

Do

Reed Municipal Pool:

Memorial Field and Field House: South Street. In 1942, this 4 acre plot of land was donated to the Town of Ware for the specific purpose of creating a ball field.
