Hello! Welcome to Wikitravel. Please take a sec to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. You may find the tips for new contributors helpful, and scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Wikitravel:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.

Looking forward to your contributions, --Evan 01:00, 19 May 2004 (EDT)

Excellent work on New Orleans

So, you've done some really great work on New Orleans and the associated districts. I did want to drop you a few links, including the huge city article template, district article template, restaurant listings, attraction listings, and bar listings. Feel free to plunge forward and just add information without worrying too much about the manual of style, but, of course, doing it right the first time saves everyone some time and effort. --Evan 16:00, 29 May 2004 (EDT)

Thanks. I guess I did too much taking my cue from what was written there already than from the templates; I'll try to get them more in line. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 16:05, 29 May 2004 (EDT)
Yep. That's one of the problems of doing wiki stuff: we have to set a good example with good style. Sorry for the disconnect. --Evan 16:09, 29 May 2004 (EDT)
Okay. I'm going to stop working on the New Orleans pages for a while to avoid the edit conflicts. One thing I feel strongly about is that "Live music" (or some similar wording) does deserve to be its own section, especially for places like New Orleans where many visitors come with music as one of their priorities. It should not be a subset of drinking; if that's according to the template, I think the template could use some adjustment or flexibility. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 16:24, 29 May 2004 (EDT)
Don't let me stop your excellent roll! You're doing great, and I won't be whacking on NO pages for a while. Go right ahead! --Evan 17:51, 29 May 2004 (EDT)
The templates are flexible, but things like live music are going to be in practically any city. We have "Drink" now for a section that should probably be called "Nightlife" or some such thing. All our section headers have short, sharp names that are pretty distinctive, so I don't think Nightlife is a good one. "Go out" might work, but it's a little close to "Get out". Brainstorming welcome. --Evan 19:20, 2 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Hi, great work on NO! I was just wondering why you removed the Fairmount-- is it closed or just not worth recommending any more? It's helpful to note why when your removing a listing (we make it to New Orleans at least once a year, so I'm also just curious). Thanks. Maj 20:46, 5 January 2007 (EST)

Originally word had been that they were planning on reopening, which is why I hadn't removed it earlier, more recently word is that at least part of the hotel buildings may be redeveloped as condominiums and there is no even projected date for reopening the hotel. Yes, this is a surprise given that this has been one of the city's best know hotels for generations, and other places that got much more damage have reopened some time ago. There are a number of good hotels in the area functioning (including the Ritz Carlton across Canal), but for now no Fairmont. I'll readd it shoud that be appropriate. Thanks for relicensing the images. IMHO CC by-sa 3.0 images are fine, but a rather overly zealous user has been VFD'ing all images that aren't 1.0-licensed because he thinks they're not acceptable -- hopefully this will soon be sorted out. Jpatokal 13:08, 1 February 2008 (EST)
