Have something to say about my edits to an article? Say it on that article's talk page, not here.

I thought sections called “Attractions near Metro Station” and “Connections to NCR region via Metro” would be very useful for travelers and tourists. Don't you think so? Please suggest - Dhempe

Did you click revert for Dallas by accident? I'm having trouble seeing anything wrong. -- Colin 22:28, 2 January 2007 (EST)

Oops — didn't realize it was Jonboy who removed the links, not anon. Thanks for spotting my booboo, I rolled back the rollback. Jpatokal 22:46, 2 January 2007 (EST)

Edit count stats

Do you know of a page that displays the weekly edit counts stats for the various language versions? -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 01:05, 6 January 2007 (EST)

Special:Statistics. Or shared:Multilingual statistics, effective yesterday... Jpatokal 01:15, 6 January 2007 (EST)
Close, but no cigar. I'm looking for a page, which might be in the /webalizer/ namespace, that has logged the weekly edit counts for the past couple of years. Hmmm. -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 01:20, 6 January 2007 (EST)
I don't think such a page exists, although I did a few queries like that a while ago. Do you want me to make you one? --Evan 01:24, 6 January 2007 (EST)

Admin nomination

I've nominated User:Cacahuate to become an admin; please comment on Wikitravel:administrator nominations when you have some time. --Evan 01:27, 6 January 2007 (EST)

Age of Consent

While reducing the amount of commentary about sex crimes by a contributor (which I thought was needed too) you added the age of consent for a few countries. What you wrote for some of them like Philippines and Cambodia doesn't match what Interpol says. I'm not sure what source you're working from, so I thought I'd ask before I make further edits in case you have a more useful source. -- Colin 00:51, 8 January 2007 (EST)

I was just doing random googling, so I'm pretty sure Interpol is a more reliable source. Jpatokal 01:54, 8 January 2007 (EST)
I was trying to cross check a few places and did use some information from an AIDS awareness website called Avert and also a little from Unicef reports. I had not thought to check Interpol. The Cambodian constitution says 15 but Interpol says 16. I assume a recent law raised the age. marchinvietnam 19:50, 14 January 2007 (EST)

Thanks for joining in on Miyajima this afternoon. Let me know if you think my image addition / swap ruins the wa. Gorilla Jones 00:46, 9 January 2007 (EST)

I thought the colors were a bit muted in the torii picture, since it's at dusk, and therefore wasn't an ideal 'grabber'. And the formatting worked better with the long horizontal of the dance picture up top (as opposed to the more info-heavy 'See' section). But you're certainly right about the iconic-ness of the torii, so please do fiddle and re-arrange if you think it'll work better. Gorilla Jones 01:02, 9 January 2007 (EST)

The southeastern border of Bhutan has been allowing travelers to exit for some time. The problems were that there was no provision for offering exit stamps there, and so travelers still had to return to Phuentsholing to get the paper work done. Do you know if that has changed? I've not read anything in the local press to that effect. Also, the Indian authorities on the Assam border were only offering entry stamps to foreigners on a case by case basis. Do you know if that has changed? Without this stamp, travelers will have problems departing from India. WindHorse 12:14, 14 January 2007 (EST)

I based my edit on this; please add the caveats. Jpatokal 00:55, 15 January 2007 (EST)
It seems like your source is quite up-to-date. However, the only time this issue has been mentioned in the local press was a 9 Jan 2007 article that stated that the national assembly were considering opening this border. Here is online version of the article: [1]. Anyway, this issue is well documented on the Samdrup Jongkhar page, and so I'll add link to that for clarification. WindHorse 02:22, 15 January 2007 (EST)

Would you please upload...

Could I ask you to upload this? Your site doesn't give copyright info and I don't want to assume what you told me about your images already uploaded to WT is the same for images not yet uploaded. Thanks. -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 23:57, 17 January 2007 (EST)

Image OK'd

I called the Norwegian Embassy in Azerbaijan and it seems that they are fine with the usage of the Sheki tourism map. How, according to Wikitravel rules do I post the image on the Sheki site? Thanks for your assistance!

Jpatokal, I'm sorry

Listen, I'm sorry for lying about the image. And you're perfectly right about me not being a wikitraveller, but please consider. you are welcome to block me off (i promise never never to do it ever again). if you think that you can forgive me, please post your comments on my talk page. with due apology (once again), Upamanyuwikitravel 08:05, 22 January 2007 (EST)

Hey there, just a quick question since you're online... what's with all of the hotel websites that his person is adding that all end in ?r=947 like - is this something fishy... like maybe getting a referral credit or something? ::: Cacahuate 10:54, 22 January 2007 (EST)

Re: thanks

Thanks, not too difficult on my part... I've been a significant editor of the article that that image is used in on Wikipedia, so that image in a travel guide on India stuck out like a sore thumb. Cheers, JYolkowski 20:10, 23 January 2007 (EST)

Will it really be the new millennium in Ethiopia on September 11, 2007? One thing that always drove me nuts was when people would be preparing for the "millennium" in 1999, when in fact the new millennium didn't start until January 1, 2001 00:01. (At least according to the Gregorian calendar.) -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 01:45, 27 January 2007 (EST)

I can answer my own question and no, it will not be the new Ethiopian millennium this year on September 11th. We have to wait until 2008 year of the Gregorian calendar. Also, the new year actually begins on September 12, 2007 [2]. This is because the new year always starts a day later than normal, on years preceding the Gregorian leap year. Do you care if I revert that trivium as it's not true? -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 01:56, 27 January 2007 (EST)

Dearest Commander of the Bots,

Can I remove the image of the buddhist temple from the discover template or will that interfere with DiscoverBot's behavior?-- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 03:25, 28 January 2007 (EST)

You can remove it manually, but then please copy it into the archive. I was just about to write something about this on Discover's talk... Jpatokal 03:26, 28 January 2007 (EST)
Cool. Thanks. -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 03:27, 28 January 2007 (EST)

Hey Jani - I'm not sure if your experiment with the VFD template was a work in progress or not, but I was getting a link to Wikipedia from one of the new additions so I rolled it back for now. Feel free to revert my revert if I've misunderstood something. -- Ryan 13:52, 28 January 2007 (EST)

My bad - some of the other edits from that IP looked questionable, and so I just assumed Faroese was as well. That'll teach me not to mess about with Scandinavian articles when the Jani-bot is patrolling. -- Virginia 22:19, 5 February 2007 (EST)

Google maps

Can I ask why "we don't do Google maps"? Surely it's a valuable service to provide an exact location? Bobo12345 23:06, 5 February 2007 (EST)

Hi, I see you have reverted an edit I made on Zimbabwe. I can't see what is wrong with my change; the article does not match the country template and my change just fixes that. -- NJR_ZA 23:41, 5 February 2007 (EST)

Could I ask you to ask the creator of the Taipei districts map (Image:Taipei Districts.PNG) to provide me with the svg format? Confirming my photography

Dear Jpatokal,

Yes, I can confirm that the pictures I have added on the Guiyang, Guizhou and Anshun pages are mine. I took the Anshun and Guizhou pictures in 2004 while I was living in Zunyi. I took the picture of the Jiaxiu Pavilion in Guiyang earlier this week since I currently reside there.

So you live in Singapore? Cool, I lived there from 1997-2000. It's a great place. Cheers, guiyang_laoshi

href spam pattern

Hi Jani - I've restored the href spam pattern in Wikitravel:Local spam blacklist as we seem to have a sharp increase in spam with it removed - see Special:Contributions/ for one example. What exactly was it blocking, and is there perhaps some other way to resolve the issue? -- Ryan 16:22, 11 February 2007 (EST)

Have you ever seen the movie Lost in Translation? If so, there's a part of the movie where Bill Murray is on a set and a Japanese director is going on and on about something, then the translator simply says "Turn toward the camera". By any chance would you know if that's really what they were saying in Japanese or were they talking about something else completely? Thanks. -- Sapphire 23:14, 17 February 2007 (EST)

Bots and Brisbane

Would it be possible to set up a bot to detect the Myer Center vandalism on the Brisbane article? It's the same thing every time, no variance. Have to give the guy credit for persistence. Gorilla Jones 07:34, 18 February 2007 (EST)

Kyoto inns

Do you think it's worth porting in the ryokans in the Japanese Innkeepers Association listings for Kyoto? Informative, or clutter? I haven't stayed at any of them - all I can do is comment on their location (and, in a few cases, their exterior). Gorilla Jones 22:40, 19 February 2007 (EST)

Why not? I've already listed the one I've stayed in myself. Jpatokal 22:51, 19 February 2007 (EST)

Hey, I want to import Guinsa to de: and we're going to translate it to make it our next "OtPB", which we call "AdTp", the only problem is that while I import it your name shows up on the "history" somewhere along the line the site won't attribute you in the footer. Would you be upset if I instead attributed you as the author on the talk page of the article? -- Sapphire 20:23, 20 February 2007 (EST)

Kein Problem. Jpatokal 21:58, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Danke. The import feature decided to work correctly so your name shows up on the footer. Can you tell us what are the geographic coordinates are? I'm sure it's pointless to worry about the postal code and area codes, but the coordinates would help us. -- Sapphire 03:59, 22 February 2007 (EST)
Keine Anung. Your next question should be answerable with "ein Döner Kebab, bitte" or "Ich habe Sauerkraut in meinen Lederhosen", otherwise you'll soon exhaust my German vocab... Jpatokal 04:35, 22 February 2007 (EST)

From Talk:Shimla

Hey,Mr. Jani, I didn't mean to sound rude or anything. If I did, I just want to point out that no offence was meant okay. BTW, Shimla has a lot of mid-range accomodation(Rs 2500-3000) and most of it is concentrated on Cart Road and The Mall(especially the Eastern bit). P.S. Hey, please don't refer to me as my little spoiled boy - I repeat, I'm sorry, I agree I crossed the limits of decency. I'm copying this onto your talk page. — Upamanyuwikitravel 08:39, 23 February 2007 (EST)

May I use some of your photos for a geography project on SE Asia on a powerpoint presentation? Only 2 of them, the Singapore one and the Thailand one? Please let me know on my talk-page. Upamanyuwikitravel 08:51, 23 February 2007 (EST)

Thanks. So if an image is licensed by CC-SA, I can use it for purposes such as this without asking permission from the owner? Does the same rule apply for GDFL? Upamanyuwikitravel 11:18, 23 February 2007 (EST)

Rai Leh

Jpatokal, you undid a lot of good edits/additions that I had to made to Rai Leh. I'm guessing that you undid them in error but if there is something that you didn't like, such as formatting or style, let me know and I'll fix it. Otherwise, I'm left scratching my head. Johnycanal 16:27, 23 February 2007 (EST)

What is your justification of labeling BAPS as controversial in the Delhi article? Moksha88 16:35, 23 February 2007 (EST)

What's you justification for not calling it controversial. I reverted your edit, because we don't believe in NPOV. We purposely have a point of view and we're not about to give that up. Our POV is travelers need to know the truth so if a place serves mediocre vegetarian food then we say so. -- Sapphire(Talk) • 16:50, 23 February 2007 (EST)

Ubud, Bali

Hi, I made edits to the Ubud article yesterday, and I see you cleaned them up some; thanks. I've just made some more and thought I should explain that the phone number format here is to use +62361... when calling from outside Indonesia, and to use 0361... for calls placed from inside the contry (handphones work with either format). Your site probably has guidelines on this sort of thing somewhere, but I've not seen them.

FYI, this is an internet cafe machine, so other may edit using it. This IP is used by many different places.

Great Wall of China

Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow. It took so long to write up the changes for the page that I was at the point of seeing the trees and not the forest. Great idea about the provincial sections inthe SEE section. It never even crossed my mind about doing it that way. Celticevergreen 00:27, 26 February 2007 (EST)

Would you please school me in what "synthetic school" means? From Guinsa: A synthetic school that holds the Lotus Sutra as the peak of the Buddha's teachings, Cheontae posits the following mindbending truths... -- Sapphire(Talk) • 21:25, 26 February 2007 (EST)

That's either my typo or somebody's mistaken typo correction for "syncretic". Jpatokal 07:22, 27 February 2007 (EST)
Thanks for the clarification. I'll get around to fixing that, but could I ask you to look at the map on Guinsa? I've found an amazing source of information geographic coordinates, but I think it has the wrong data for "Kuinsa", unless there's a second place with the same name South Korea. Thank you in advance. -- Sapphire(Talk) • 21:11, 27 February 2007 (EST)
What map are you referring to? For a rough idea, Guinsa's located in the northeasternmost tip of North Chungcheong. Jpatokal 23:52, 27 February 2007 (EST)
The map link under the "Toolbox". You can see it using this link. -- Sapphire(Talk) • 00:07, 28 February 2007 (EST)
The Yahoo map looks roughly correct to me, it's just very low on detail -- eg. Danyang is missing completely, but Cheongju etc seem to be in the right place. Jpatokal 00:19, 28 February 2007 (EST)

Busted bot

Looks like DiscoverBot is on the fritz again, in a new and creative way. It's taking things off the top of the queue, but apparently not updating Template:Discover with the extracted item, just sending them off to write-only memory.
