Towner is the county seat of McHenry County, in the north central area of North Dakota. It has a population of about 574 people. Coordinates are latitude 48.35 N and longitude 100.40 W. Elevation is 1,476 feet above sea level.
Towner describes itself as the "Cattle Capital of North Dakota". The area was first settled in 1884. It was named for a civil war confederate soldier from the area, Oscar Towner.
