South-Holland [1] is a province in the Netherlands.

South-Holland consists of the southern half of the historic County of Holland. It can be divided into 6 regions:

This area is famous for it's enormous flower fields, considered a typical landscape for the country. The Keukenhof is visited by millions of tourists each year.
Green Heart
In the middle of the Randstad conurbation lies the Green Heart, a green agricultural zone between the four biggest cities of the country. The flat polders and canals, considered typical for the country, can be explored by hiking or cycling.
The Hague is the political heart of the country, with numerous attractions like Madurodam and the Binnenhof. The historic town of Delft is famous for it's typical Delftware pottery.
South-Holland Coastline
The most important North Sea coastline in the country. You can find popular bathing towns like Scheveningen and Noordwijk here, as well as obscure family-oriented destinations like Katwijk and Kijkduin.
South-Holland Islands
The islands Voorne-Putten and Goeree-Overflakkee are a good destination for water sports, but also for hikers and cyclists. Historic towns like Brielle, Hellevoetsluis and Middelharnis can be found here as well.
Rotterdam, with formerly the largest harbor in the world, is an economic and urban giant. Around it, plenty of towns can be found, like Dordrecht, Schiedam and Vlaardingen.

  • Noordwijk aan Zee - Go to this little city. Historical center, and nice beach.
  • Rotterdam - Formerly the world's largest port. Modern town centre built almost completely after WWII.
  • The Hague - Government city. Has also a beach side neigbourhood called Scheveningen.
  • Gouda - Historical city.
  • Leiden - Another historical city, also very vibrant as it is a university city. Also a good gateway to some beach towns.
  • Lisse - Gateway to the Keukenhof.
  • Dordrecht - Historical city, near the Biesbosch.
  • Delft - Old V.O.C. city. Very close to The Hague.
  • Alphen aan den Rijn
  • Zoetermeer
  • Schiedam Historical city known for it's jenever, 5 largest windmills of the world.

Other destinations

  • The Kaag - Nice area with lots of opportunities for waterfun. Good for walking, fishing, sailing and swimming.
  • Nieuwkoop - Another nice place to have fun on the water.
