Skara [1] is a town with about 18,000 inhabitants in the region Västergötland in Sweden.

Get in

By train

The X 2000 train takes you to Stockholm (2 hours) and Gothenburg (1 hour).

By bus

By car

The european route E20 passes through Skara.

Get around

Walking, public transport [2] or car. Short term parking is free.


  • Skara cathedral (Skara domkyrka)


  • Skara sommarland [3]. Amusement park with about 45 attractions including water slides, roller-coaster and go-carts.





Get out

  • Lake Hornborga (Hornborgasjön) [4]. A must for any bird lover in the area. Known as the lake where up to 12,000 cranes stop on their way back from warmer countries. Situated about 20 km from town center.
  • Varnhem monastery
