Port Townsend is a city in Jefferson County on the Olympic Peninsula region of Washington. It is the county seat and only incorporated city of Jefferson County GR6.

Understand

In addition to its natural scenery at the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula, the city is also known for the many Victorian buildings remaining from its late 19th-century heyday, numerous annual cultural events, and as a maritime center for independent boatbuilders and related industries and crafts.

Get around

By Ferry

Probably considered the definitive way to get around Puget Sound. Washington State Ferries make trips back and forth across most of the major waterways, and from Whidbey Island you can arrive by ferry in downtown Port Townsend! Give yourself ample time in the summer for traveling by ferry as the traffic increases greatly then, at times expect a 2 hour wait. Carpool and save some space for others. Bicycles ride cheaper and get off first, as do pedestrians.

Air

There are no daily scheduled flights to Port Townsend by air and no major airlines land at Jefferson County International Airport. Lots of small planes fly-in for lunch at the Spruce Goose Cafe, and there are air taxi flights to and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The flight time is only 30 minutes or so and beats driving through traffic and ferry waits. The local Peninsula/Key City Taxi (360-385-1872) can pick you up and bring you into town or see Car Rentals.
