Earth : North America : Central America : Honduras : Caribbean Honduras : Omoa
Omoa was the main Caribbean port of Honduras until the mid 19th century. Now it is a very laid-back, very small, picturesque beach town and a pleasant day trip from San Pedro Sula.
Take the divided highway from San Pedro Sula to Puerto Cortes. Turn north and drive for about 15 minutes. You'll see the signs for Omoa. Turn right at the sea-life fountain and go about a half mile to the beach.
The beach area of Omoa is small and walkable, but there are cabs available. It would be easy enough to walk from the beach area to the fort, but it is a ways and older folks would be better off taking a cab. You would definitely need a cab to go from the highway to the beach area.
