Omkareshwar is a city in Madhya Pradesh in India.

Omkareshawar is situated 70 km from Indore. It is a religious place, where one of the Jyotrilingh of Shiva is situated.

There are steamboats across the Narmada river and also two connecting bridges to reach the temple.

The Airports close to Omkareshwar are at Indore (77 km) and Ujjain (133 km).

Nearest Railway Station is at Omkareshwar Road (12 km) on the Ratlam-Khandwa section of the Western Railway which is not a mainline. The other nearest railway station connected to Delhi and Mumbai is at Indore (77 km).

Khandwa railway station is on the main broad gauge line between Mumbai and Varanasi. Omkareshwar can then be reached by bus.

Buses run from Khandwa bus station (adjacent to the railway station) to Omkareshwar new bus station on the outskirts of town, 2 hours. 70rs.

Omkareshwar is connected to major towns and cities of Madhya Pradesh. There are regular bus services from Ujjain (133 km) , Indore (77 km), Khandwa (61 km.) and Omkareshwar Road (12 km).

Get aroundEdit

Omkareshwar is a small town with many stepped footpaths and one main road which connects the bus station with the foot bridges across to the island. Getting around by foot is necessary.

Naramada Resort, run by M.P. Tourism is a very good place to stay. The restaurant of this hotel provides good food as well.

There is 'dharamshala' as you get down the Omkareshwar temple and walk straight for 100-200 metres. This is good for stay, as one can easily attend shayan aarti at night and safely get to this stay and rest.

If you are a foreigner looking to stay in an ashram that welcomes non Indians, you can stay at Gayatri Yoga Shadhana Ashram (http://gayatritemple.weebly.com/). The residents are welcoming and you can share home cooked vegetarian meals daily.
