To have a good view of Murcia and all the valley sourronding, the best place to go is "El Valle" or the Sanctuary of "La Fuensanta", both of then in the mountain at the background of the city: Go direction Cartagena, and before the mountains (5 or 10 km away from Murcia only), follow to "La alberca" and pass it straigh, you would see indications to "Santuario de la Fuensanta". Introduction

Murcia is a rather big city (350.000 inhabitants), capital of the province with the same name, in with you also find other two big cities: Cartagena, and Lorca. They together sum more than a million people.

The most famous thing about Murcia use to be its vegetables, cocked all the ways... our neigbors from Cartagena call us "green stomach".

Murcia

Murcia city itself is not very cosmopolitan, it is more like a peacefull place where to live: no risk in walking at anytime anyplace, lot of walk-only street, very kind people, not busy at all... when walking in Murcia, some times you think it is holyday and a small village!

Most important thing to be seen here is: The cathedral (mainly barroque), The Salzillo museum (sculpture), some palaces that holds cultural showings (Palacio del Almudi, Iglesia de San Esteban).

(also ask people in Murcia, there are other ways to get there). Try going there by the sun set, the view is incredible.

Another place that should be missed is the castle on top of "Monteagudo" mountain, that sure you will see from almost anyplace in Murcia. It is an old arab castled converted into cristianism by placing a open-arms image of crist in the top (a shame for our selfs not to have conserved the castled instead of making this).

To go there, you can leave Murcia by the old Alicante road, it will be in sigth from the first meters and will take you 5 minutes to reach. Park the car down the mountain and climb to the top.

Beaches

Murcia have a lot of beautifull beaches, some of them are still virgin territory, like those between Mazarron and Aguilas, and other are very busy places at summer time, like "La Manga", a kind of land stripe that separates the mediterranean sea from a small lake-like "minor sea", as we call it here (Mar menor).
