Matunuck is one of the villages of South Kingstown, located in Washington County, Rhode Island. The village's name is from a Native American word meaning "look out." The Narragansett tribe made a summer encampment at this location before the land was sold to colonists as part of the Pettaquamscutt purchase. It is mostly a summer community in Southern Rhode Island with a small, but strong base of year round locals.

Personal boats can be hard to dock because there are no public spots or marinas. Docks are located along the water and in Potter's Pond but they are privately owned. If traveling from a far distance, the most convenient airport is TF Green Airport located at 2000 Post Road in Warwick and can be reached at (888)268-7222 or . This airport is located about 45 minutes away and has taxi services to bring you to Matunuck. Other airports in the area are Westerly and Quonset State Airports.
Various taxi services are available to bring you to and from different areas in Matunuck. The closest service is Eagle Cab ((800)339-2970) in Narragansett but there is also Wakefield Cab in South Kingstown ((401)783-0007) or Wright’s Taxi in Westerly ((401)596-8294).
If using the train, you would be dropped off at the Kingston Train Station located at 1 Railroad Ave in West Kingston. Here, there are taxis you can use for the 20 minute drive to Matunuck. Tickets for Amtrak can be found on the homepage,  or by calling (401)295-1100.
Visitors are also welcome to use the RIPTA Public Bus that can bring you all around the area. By having many convenient stops, this choice is convenient and somewhat inexpensive. Driving is one of the easiest ways to travel around Matunuck when also using the highway. Everything is located off roads from Route One. Be aware that in the summer time, there may be traffic in certain areas between the hours of 9 and 11 in the morning and then 3 to 5 in the afternoon when people are traveling to and from the beach.
Once again, visitors can also use the RIPTA bus to get around Matunuck. Their stops are convenient and the fare is reasonably priced. RIPTA’s website and telephone number are listed above in the Get In section.
Matunuck, overall, is small. It is possible to get almost anywhere by walking or biking. Not all streets have sidewalks but most of the area is pedestrian friendly.
Located at 950 Succotash Road and just over 144 acres of beach, this beach is known for its rough waves and riptide. Plenty of parking and public restrooms and showers are available. The beach is open 7 days a week 9AM-6PM but lifeguards are only on duty during the summer season.
This beach has small waves attracting families with children and has a large dock for people to jump off of. Parking is always tough, so expect a small walk to the beach. Across the canal, the Block Island boats are docked in a large marina so expect a lot of boat traffic. Beach is small and squeezed between houses and buildings. The beach is open year round but there are no lifeguards throughout the entire year.

The inside bar is opened year round but the outdoor patio is only open in warm weather. The restaurant does have a small kid’s menu but has more of a mature atmosphere for older children or adults. Expect up to a 2-hour wait for dinner on summer or weekend nights. Open Sunday-Thursday 11:30AM- 9PM and Friday-Saturday 11:30AM-10PM. In the summer, the restaurant does close later.

Upcoming promos and music can all be found on their website. The restaurant can turn into a college scene some nights as well when schools are in session. Very casual and laid back atmosphere. Menu is mostly fish and seafood which is reasonably priced and the quality is decent. This restaurant does do takeout and there is plenty of parking with a rare wait. The restaurant can become very crowded in the summer but dead in the winter.
