State of Emergency Declared in Nepal1 February 2005 On Feb 1st 2005, King Gyanendra of Nepal dismissed the government and declared a state of emergency. Kathmandu airport is open and internet and phone lines are operating as usual (after a temporary suspension). There has been no violence in the capital, but the future remains uncertain. Egypt Announces Price Rises for Tourist Entry to Monuments21 January 2005 Reports from Egypt reveal that the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities has raised all ticket prices for tourist admission to the country's vast array of ancient and medieval monuments. Turkey Introduces New Currency1 January 2005 Turkey has introduced the New Turkish lira [code TRY] [1] as a replacement currency for the old Turkish lira - the new currency is marked YTL (Yeni Türk Lirası) is equivalent to 1 million of the old. We hope to enlarge this month our adminteam (important after some trouble) and additionally to outrun within the next week(s) our friends of the RO-Wikitravel in a productive internal race ;). 11 February 2005: Downtime rescheduled to 13 Feb 2005 18:00 UTC. 9 February 2005: Wikitravel is now running MediaWiki 1.3.10. Scheduled downtime for 12 Feb 2005 18:00 UTC is expected to last four hours to move to a server more adequate to the needs of Wikitravel.. 7 February 2005: The site will be off-line on 9 Feb 2005 for an hour starting at 01:00 UTC, and on 10 Feb 2005 for an hour starting at 01:00 UTC. |
