Lattakai region one of the nicest in Syria,from the green mountains till the sandy beaches north with many important archeological sites like Saladin castle(UNESCO world heritage site since 2006)& the ruined Phenecian city of Ugarit where the first aklphabet was discovered.

Qala'at Saladin A few miles from Latakia - A castle built on a headland overlooking a valley, the builders cut a huge channel at the rear of the castle to separate it from the rest of the headland, but left a column of rock in the middle to rest the drawbridge on. Forethought!
