Kapiri Mposhi (also known as Komperi Mposhi) is a small town in Central Zambia.

UnderstandEdit

Because of its location as a crossroads, for both automobile roads and railways, Kapiri Mposhi has recently been growing and is poised to experience further growth in the future.

Kapiri Mposhi is at the junction of Great North Road and the road to the Northern Province and Tanzania. It is also a railway junction of the north-south line between Livingstone and the Copperbelt, and the TAZARA line to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

As a result of the town being so small, public transport is not necessary. However there are a number of taxis in the area, which will stop if notified.

SeeEdit

There is very little to see in the way of touristic sights. Be aware of this when you are planning your journey. There is a small market near the train station that would warrant thirty minutes of your time.

There is little to do apart from explore the area.

There is a large supermarket near the bus station that stocks many things. This is a useful place to buy some essential items before taking the train. Items sold include; bottled water, biscuits, tinned goods, bread, chocolate etc.

There are a number of seedy looking hotels in the centre of town, just across the road from the bus station. These cannot be recommended.

As a result of the town being located on a major crossroads, there are a number of transportation options available.

These include frequent bus connections to the capital Lusaka. If you arrive by train in Kapiri Mposhi and want to move on to Lusaka walk right about 1 km from the parking space in front of the station until the junction with the main road. Turn left for another kilometer and find the bus stop on the left side just behind the PEP market. There is a ticket booth but there are other buses just stopping by to pick passengers up. Postbus charges 90 ZMW for the trip to Lusaka (around 3 hours with one 10 minute stop, ~60 seats bus).

There is the famed TANZARA train station of which Kapiri Mposhi is at one end. The station is located about 2km out of town, this could be walked, but can reached by taxi at very reasonable cost.
