1. Each location is well-known
2. There are a relatively large amount of fully grown trees
3. Many visitors come to view the cherry blossoms
4. The area has history
5. The surrounding area is harmonious and beautiful
6. Each prefecture have at least one spot on the list

The List

Although the list itself acts as a ranking system, placing those locations on the list above other locations, within the list, no hierarchy is given. The numbers simply mark the position of the location from north to south.

The number one place in Japan to view cherry blossoms however, is undisputably Yoshino, with over 30,000 cherry trees and a long history of cherry blossom viewing.
