Jangyu is also the name for a myeon, or township - like administrative area, where the city is being developed. There has been rapid development in this area since the year 2000 approximately because of pressure on nearby cities. Jangyu is often considered a suburb of Gimhae, Changwon, Jinhae, and Busan. Jangyu is within the city limits of Gimhae, and Changwon is the provincial capital of Gyeongsangnam-Do. Busan is the second largest city in South Korea.
Jangyu has no train or air service. The best way to arrive is by bus. There is an express bus to Jangyu from Busan's Seobu bus terminal at Sasang station. Jangyu is also serviced by buses 170, 98, 97, 59, and 58 that run between Changwon and Gimhae.
There is also an express bus from Seoul that stops in Jangyu on its way to Gimhae.
There are a number of buses that circuit Jangyu. Bus number 26 runs a simple route looping the town. Buses 58 and 59 both stop at Jangyu's waterfall.
Janyu-sa is a hidden gem of a temple, sitting atop one of the mountain peaks separating the town from Changwon.
Yulha's cafe district can make for a pleasant time - cafes and restaurants lined along the Yulha stream.
Jangyu Waterfall sits at the base of the mountain that Jangyu-sa rests on.
Hike! Jangyu is a lovely little place to hike in. Choose a mountain and climb it.
Shop! Jangyu is famous in the area for its Lotte Premium Outlet. The outlet houses a number of designer boutiques, both domestic and international. Sales are frequent.
Bike! Use the town as a jumping point for more remote countryside locations such as jillye or jinyeong
Camp! Janyu's Daecheong Valley is a lovely, remote spot with a beautifully clean and clear mountain spring flowing down it. There are platforms along the creek, just upstream from the waterfall, where you can pitch a tent. Take bus 58 or 59 to get there.
Nearby country town Jillye is famous for its continued production of traditional buncheong ceramics.
Goryeojeong: Their specialty is the hot rice meal: a hot stone bowl filled with steaming mixed grains. Spoon the rice out into another dish (provided), and pour the tea into the stone bowl. The rice remaining in the bowl will become a kind of porridge. Rooftop Bar: This is not the real name of the bar, but it is on the roof across the street from Lotte Mart. Local expats tend to gather there on Thursday evenings.
