Haputale is a city in Uva. It's a relaxed little place with about 5000 inhabitants. Mostly Tamils mixed with some Muslims and Buddhists. It's a wonderful place to retreat for a while. There is many Tea estates around and one can walk virtually for several weeks, without ever taking the same path twice. As it is located on top of a mountain range, the views are exceptional. But mind the sun. It's quite high above sea level and thus the sun is very powerful.

==Get in==By train or bus (from Kandy for example)

==Get around==Walking or by rickshaw, as usual in Sri Lanka. One can take the train to visit smaller places around (Ella or Bandarawella or Badulla, for example)

==See==Tea estates.

==Eat== There is the standard range of eateries.

Bawan Guest House or it's neighboring Guest House. Both offer single rooms from 350 RS (2009). Both intend to offer dormitory accommodation soon. To find them, just walk back on the rail tracks (beginning from the railway station) in the direction Kandy. After 400 meters one can see a sign "Olympus" on the hill left to the rails. Climb up the stairs to that sign. There you reach a road (Temple Road, parallel to the rails) up that hill. Then, when turning around 180 degrees, one can see a yellow sign indicating a schoolboy and a schoolgirl. At that place a little way is leaving from Temple Road, parallel of Temple Road, into the western direction (there is only one direction). Follow that small muddy way. Continue it for approximately 200 meters. There is coming a green wall on the right side. Don't mind you're not lost.... . Before that green wall turns gray, small steps are leading downwards. Descend them and you will already see the roof of Bawan Guest House's neighboring Guest House. You can continue that small track for another 100 meters and you can see the roof of Bawan Guest House itself. At the end of that track one can descend another steps and will reach the tiny road (also parallel to the mud track) which the entry gates of Bawan Guest House and it's neighboring Guest House are facing to. Sorry, but it's not that easy to explain.

==Get out==By train or by bus.
