Gujarat [1] is a state in the Republic of India. With 20% of the country's total industrial output, it is the most industrialized state in India. Gujarat borders Pakistan, and the states of Rajasthan to the north-east, Madhya Pradesh to the east, Maharashtra and the Union territories of Diu, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli to the south. The international border with Pakistan is to the north-west. The Arabian Sea makes up the state's western coast. Its capital, Gandhinagar is a planned city and is located near Ahmedabad, the commercial capital of Gujarat.

There are trains from/to Bombay (500 km) and New Delhi (1000 km) several times a day going to the main cities: Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat. Ahmedabad has an airport with several flights a day to/from Bombay and Delhi, and also flights to other Indian metropoles. Ahmedabad is the only International Airport in Gujarat with regular flights to London, New York, Chicago and Dubai.

Gujarat is very famous for variety of food. People are very fond of quality food. Gujarat is by and large vegeterian food lover. There are hundreds of pure vegeterian food varities are offerred across Gujarat.


Alcohol is forbidden in Gujarat. Foreign tourists are partly exempted from this restriction. Drinking in public is strictly prohibited. However, if you are going to stay longer in Gujarat, you may apply for alcohol permit. Ask how to do it in your hotel or the place where you stay.
