Get in

By Car

The road network in the Faroes is relatively straight forward. From Tórshavn, the distance to Fuglafjørður is 69 km. Follow the main road north across to Eysturoy, follow the main road through the tunnel and take a right hand turn at the roundabout at Skipanes. At the roundabout in Gøta, continue straight ahead to get to Fuglafjørður (where a left hand turn will take you to Leirvík and through the sub-sea tunnel to the Northern Islands).

By Bus

Since the opening of the sub-sea tunnel in 2006 between Eysturoy and the Northern Islands the main bus connection (Route 400) has been between Tórshavn and Klaksvík. To get to Fuglafjørður from Tórshavn, take Route 400 north and change bus in Gøta to Route 410. Make sure before you start north that there is a connecting bus to Fuglafjørður.

Get around

  • The harbour is colourful and extremely busy, but following the old path to Hellur up to the cairn on the top of the pass, you will soon regain your peace of mind.
  • Just south of Fuglafjørður is a warm spring called Varmakelda. Its water is believed to be curative and in midsummer people from all over the Faroes gather to celebrate the summer solstice here.
  • The tourist information office will give you advice about overnight accommodation and tours.
