Population: 3,680 (2000 census) HistoryDuring the Philadelphia campaign of the American Revolutionary War, George Washington and the Continental Army set up their camps here after their defeat at the Battle of Germantown in 1777. This was also immediately prior to their march to Valley Forge. During their encampment at Fort Washington the British and American forces met on the battle field, which is now know as the Battle of White Marsh. Today, the Fort Washington State Park contains an area dedicated to the primary American troops that were situated there. Get inFort Washington is conveniently close to the Philadelphia International Airport. There are rental cars, SEPTA, and even the Regional Rail (R5), that is available to take to from the airport. Fort Washington has an actual Regional Rail and SEPTA stop, which is located no more than a half mile from a Holiday Inn. The Regional Rail (R5) also runs through Center City with connecting trains from New York and New Jersey.
