Understand

Farmington is located in Wharton Township, along the National Road. It is situated about 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, and is the closest settlement to Fort Necessity. It is also home to the 5 star Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. As of the 2010 census the population was 767.

The Wharton Furnace Built in 1837, a stone structure measuring 33 feet wide, 31 feet deep, and 31 feet high. It was built as a blast furnace, placed in blast in 1839 and went out of blast by 1850. It was built by Congressman Andrew Stewart (1791-1872).
