The world's tenth largest island, Ellesmere Island only has one small community called Grise Fiord. All other communities on the island are either militarily or scientifically based.
The community of Grise Fiord is can be reached by flying there from Resolute Bay on Cornwallis Island.
Because Ellesmere Island has such a small population and is such a remote place, there are no highways that go around the island.
Ellesmere Island is a polar desert, meaning that it almost looks like Martian landscape with the exception of the ice sheets and glaciers.
People do some hiking on the island and there is a national park at the northern end of Ellesmere.
You'll probably want to bring camping equipment with you, if possible, especially if you want to hike around parts of the island.
