The Eastern Desert is a region in Jordan.
As of 2016, the two largest Jordanian refugee camps built in response to the Syrian Civil War, Azraq and Zaatari, were located in the Eastern Desert as well. They are not generally open to the public, but can be seen from the road.
The distances are great in the east of Jordan, and a comparative lack of bus services can make transportation difficult. Many tour operators run services along the Desert Castles route, while a taxi from Amman should be able to exhaustively cover the region for about 60 JOD.
Food is available in Azraq and in the areas around Qasr al-Hallabat. In between, options are considerably more scarce.
Bring plenty of water, as the desert can get considerably hotter than Amman.
Most likely, you will cross paths with very few humans when venturing into the Eastern Desert (outside of Azraq). But watch out for ISIS!
