Central Europe is the name of the region which encompasses the countries in the centre of Europe. Historically these are the countries of German "Mitteleuropa".
Common region names
Ethnically different, the countries of Central Europe share similar culture and history throughout the ages.
Czech, Polish, Slovak and Slovenian languages are in the same Slavic group, and they are quite similar to each other. Austrian and (partially) Swiss national languages are German (own dialects).
