Default Banner.jpg

Carate is a small town in Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula near Corcovado National Park.

Get in

By collectivo from Puerto Jimenez in the dry season, it takes 2-1/2hrs or more depending on stops etc. By taxi, it should only take 1-1/2hrs. You can also fly on AlphaRomeo (Alvaro) from Puerto Jimenez to Carate in about 10 minutes.

Get around

  • Walk. There is a thirty-five minute walk along the beach between Carate and the entrance to Corcovado at La Leona Ranger Station.

  • There is a small snack stand, but people who are entering Corcovado through this route should make sure that they purchase food in Puerto Jimenez to bring into the park.

There are some hotels along the beach.

  • La Leona EcoLodge.
  • [1]LagunaVista Villas A tropical rainforest lodge located beside Playa Carate on the southwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica, borders a beautiful spring-fed lagoon and provides comfortable Mediterranean- style accommodation in an eco-friendly environment. Villa decks offer panoramic views of the lagoon and coconut tree beach, as well as rainforest, ocean and aquatic wildlife. Various activities include trekking in the nearby Corcovado National Park, surfing, kayaking, turtle and bird watching, fishing and horse riding.
