Aa - as in 'a' in man[shorter] or as in father[longer]
+
The Bicol language generally has only 5 main vowels. They are pronounced just like their English counterparts. But there are some tricky pronunciations when reading Bicol texts, like glottal stops.
Ee - as in 'e' in egg

Ii - as in 'ee' in Eel

Oo - as in 'o' in Octopus

Uu - as in 'u' true

See? There's no difficulty here...
+
* Aa = as in father
Its as same as English alphabet but Bikol is more on stress accents...
+

Find out also the consonants... ^^
+
* Ee = as in eggplant
 +

 +
* Ii = as in ink
 +

 +
* Oo = as in order
 +

 +
* Uu = as in oooohh (not 'u' in "under")
 +

 +
The ' is a glottal stop just like saying the word "butter" with a stop in the middle. (Buhh'er)

Bikol is a language spoken by people in the Bicol region on southeastern Luzon in the Philippines. It was highly influenced by the Spanish language.

Pronunciation guide[edit]

Vowels[edit]

The Bicol language generally has only 5 main vowels. They are pronounced just like their English counterparts. But there are some tricky pronunciations when reading Bicol texts, like glottal stops.

  • Aa = as in father
  • Ee = as in eggplant
  • Ii = as in ink
  • Oo = as in order
  • Uu = as in oooohh (not 'u' in "under")

The ' is a glottal stop just like saying the word "butter" with a stop in the middle. (Buhh'er)

Consonants[edit]

  • Pronounced like English alphabet*

BbDdGgHhKkLlMmNnPpRrSsTtWwYy

Common diphthongs[edit]
