Bar [1] is a major port for Montenegro.
The oldest olive tree in the world. Bar, Montenegro

Modern town, surrounded by Mediterranean plants, represents the largest tourist-nautical center on the entry to the Adriatic Sea. The area of Bar is situated on the South-East of Montenegro on the Adriatic coast and it takes the area of 505 square kilometres. The coast is 46km long out of which beaches are 9km long, while on the other side Skadar Lake shore that also belongs to Bar is 65km longThe Old Town of Bar, which is 4km far from the coast, is the most significant among the numerous cultural-historical monuments, what witnesses to the turbulent history of this town. The remnants of the town are deaf witnesses of numerous conquerors and different cultures. On the postcard of Bar there are tourist facilities, restaurants, sport fields, trade and a marina with 1050 berths.

In Bar municipality there are 40,000 inhabitants. Since villages are very accesible, this area is a cultivated coastal-lake area This area is known for its multinational and multiconfessional population structure with very high standards of tolerance in the relations among people who live here. A good tradition of living here together is atypical for the Balkans, and it has not been jeopardised through the history regardless of many political and state turbulences. The interesting features of this population are microlocalities that differ and that may be seen in the various folk costumes. Thus, for example, there are many folk costume that are rare in other areas of Montenegro. The definition "The Harmony through Diversities" might, in short, characterise the population from Bar municipality.
