Mekedatu (aka. Sangama) is a very well known place for people in and around Bangalore. Mekedatu is a kannada (a south Indian language) name meaning - meke="Goat" and datu="to cross". It is believed that Goat has crossed this narrow valley while it was being chased.

Sangama and Mekedatu are two different places, as it is located next to each other, people do call this as Mekedatu/sangama.
