Ambato is a city in the central Andean Highlands of Ecuador.

Understand[edit]

Ambato was destroyed by an earthquake in 1949 and the rebuilding process was quick and efficient. Therefore it lacks the colonial charm of other Southamerican cities.

Get in[edit]

Ambato is a fairly major transport hub. Buses run from Quito (2.5 hours), Baños (1 hour), Cuenca (6 hours), and many others. Information on bus schedules can be found at AndesTransit.

Salasaca about 20 minutes outside as a market with indigenous crafts- really low prices.
