Acitrezza is a fishing village in Sicily. It is part of the municipality of Aci Castello.

Acitrezza is a well-known summer destination for many tourists, only 10km from Catania. The village's main feature are the Faraglioni, the small islands just off the coast. According to the legend, these are the rocks that the cyclop Polyphemus threw at Ulysses as narrated by Homer in the Odyssey. The locals often refer to these islands as Isole dei Ciclopi (Islands of the Cyclops).

Catch city bus 534 from Borsellino terminus near the Duomo Plaza (also stopping at Catania central station) for 1 euro - don't forget to validate your ticket when you get out the bus.

You can rent a car at the airport in Catania and reach Acitrezza in just a few minutes. If you're coming from the main land (the ferry boat between Messina and Reggio Calabria then take the A18 motorway heading south. Exit at Acireale.

Cyclops Rocks, the Faraglioni

Sicily is renowned for its natural beauty. Acitrezza's bay features the Cyclops Rocks (faraglioni in Italian) and the Lachea island. According to the legend, the Faraglioni are the rocks that cyclop Polyphemus threw at Ulysses as narrated in the Odyssey. You can visit the Marine Protected Area of the Lachea Isle and the Cyclops Rocks. Other nearby locations worth a visit are Aci Castello, the city of Catania, Mount Etna natural reserve and the villages around the vulcani area. Going north on the coast you'll get to Taormina with its beautifully preserved roman theatre. Going south there are Augusta, Siracusa and Noto. There are also several archaeological areas with roman and greek ruins.
