Hello Cacahuate!

Is this map advice for me about this? If so, I may leave my maps as they are. :-)

No, just coincidence that I uploaded it around the same time! I've been trying to use the PD template so that I don't have to insert credits to the makers of the symbols... but then I also like to have the WT logo on the maps, so I include that and then license it as ccbysa 1.0. I'm not sure if I should be crediting Mark for using the WT logo or not, but I haven't been. Hmm. – cacahuate talk 01:26, 9 August 2007 (EDT)
I like the logo too, but it's also our problem. So I'm thinking to remove it from my images... -- Tatata 06:18, 9 August 2007 (EDT)

One more thing, can I protect this[1] again? -- Tatata 21:52, 7 August 2007 (EDT)

I protected it again for 30 days to see if that helps... hopefully the user/bot will get bored. I'm not a big fan of protecting pages, especially without an expiry date (usually 1 week or 30 days is good)... I think usually unless it is really a lot of spam, like several times a day, we should just use the revert button... there's enough of us around to keep an eye on a page. That's how we do it on :En... but I know shared doesn't have as many people watching it as we do over there. Anyway, hopefully 30 days will work! If not, I think we should go back to reverting the spam when we see it – cacahuate talk 01:26, 9 August 2007 (EDT)
Thank you for protection. I'm understanding that we must serve this project as the lowest classes, but I think still; it is good for us to avoid a waste of time and human resources by coping with vandals/spams more flexibly. I hope it will go well! -- Tatata 06:18, 9 August 2007 (EDT)

Hello Cacahuate!

Now I'm trying to clean up {{dont know}} tagged images on shared: [2].

So could I ask you to put a license tag on your untagged images[3] and remove {{dont know}} tag from them? Thanks! -- Tatata 21:58, 20 August 2007 (EDT)

Licensing templates[edit]

Hello cacahuate.

I'm thinking to create a babel style licensing template for dual licensed images, because we need more flexible template for accuracy. And I'm waiting that 14 days pass since I've suggested it to Travellers' pub. Maybe I'll do it next week, so can you wait to do something about image pages with red link of Template:Dual-gfdl? I'll undo your edit after I finish to post this message, but I'll follow up them until I create it and remove comment/tag. Thanks. -- Tatata 04:49, 29 October 2007 (EDT)

No problem... however shouldn't the name of the new template be Template:dual-gfdl-cc-by-1.0, so that it matches the format of the existing licenses? – cacahuate talk 05:02, 29 October 2007 (EDT)
That's a good question. I think it's better to do that names of CC templates become parameter values of Template:Dual-gfdl rather than we create templates for each combination; e.g. tag {{dual-gfdl|cc-by-sa-2.1-jp|cc-by-sa-2.5}}[4] for this. I've already created a babel style template on ja: and currently it can accept 5 parameters at the maximum. In case of parameter is not specified, the template shows an error message instead of showing gfdl license. -- Tatata 05:51, 29 October 2007 (EDT)
Aaahhh, I see what you are saying... that is definitely much better then - the less templates the better! – cacahuate talk 06:05, 29 October 2007 (EDT)

Corporate interest[edit]

Hi C! I noticed your recently added tech request regarding the site slowdown. When I read it, I realised that it was a case of "Right, I have had it". So, I added this outcry to the pub. Feel free to leave your comment! Riggwelter 15:06, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Speed WAS the only cure[edit], welcome back! Riggwelter 05:28, 5 March 2008 (EST)

Thanks  :) – cacahuate talk 00:36, 12 March 2008 (EDT)

Kaz hacks[edit]

Do you have the original for Image:Map_of_Central_Asia.png somewhere? The "Kazhakstan" typo is kinda embarrasing. Jpatokal 12:32, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

Stupid H, I put that ***** in his place – cacahuate talk 19:35, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

Squish them bugs biotch![edit]

Hey thanks! I'm planning to tackle the feature requests next. In the meantime, might I persuade you to weigh in here? --Peter Talk 13:16, 24 March 2008 (EDT)

Image licensing discussions[edit]

Hi! Thanks for your feedback on image licensing discussions. However - where have these discussions taken place? Riggwelter 09:36, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

Hey, would you mind uploading the SVGs for your maps? I'll be translating them into Russian if you do ;) --Peter Talk 20:28, 2 August 2008 (EDT)

yes, planning an svg bonanza soon... I was kinda just trying to play around a bit and develop a consistent style first, then tweak them all to use same colors, etc... out of time and energy now, but will contribute to the new region expedition soon, and suggest that we develop a fairly specific MoS for region maps soon! Good work on that :) – cacahuate talk 21:01, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
Thanks! ;) --Peter Talk 16:24, 17 January 2010 (EST)

Thank you very much[edit]

For the bureaucrat nomination (I'm [email protected]/ro). --Vlad 07:59, 11 October 2008 (EDT)

Bureaucrat nomination[edit]

Thanks, for this nomination. Paweł Drozd on Wikitravel Drozdp talk

Is the bureaucrat nomination canceled or can they proceed with the installation? --Rein N. 08:36, 2 November 2008 (EST)

Hey Cacahuate, is there any particular reason you didn't list the Swedish version on your list of bureaucrat nominations? Sertmann 18:26, 2 November 2008 (EST)

Rein, they are still valid, we'll close them out soon and probably assign bureaucrat status to most of the nominees. Sertmann, I left that one off because Riggwelter is already a bureaucrat, and I left off German as well since Sapphire is a bureaucrat there – cacahuate talk 20:14, 2 November 2008 (EST)
Ah, Cool then, i would have nominated Riggwelter, mighty fine dude ;o) Sertmann 20:43, 2 November 2008 (EST)

Travel NT[edit]

Hey thanks for doing that I appreciate it! Lex 23:46, 23 November 2008 (EST)

Can you fix the typo in Image:Map of Central Asia.png to "Kazakhstan"? I'd do it myself, but either the SVG is missing or the link to it is broken... Jpatokal 10:52, 7 January 2009 (EST)

How in the hell did I manage to make that same mistake twice??? Anyhoo, I'll be back home in couple days, and will get to it soon – cacahuate talk 14:51, 10 January 2009 (EST)

Admin switch[edit]

User:Digr is our new Russian admin. Mind flipping the switch? --Peter Talk 16:22, 10 February 2009 (EST)

Destructive prowess[edit]

3.7 deletions/minute, sustained over a good half hour for a WT record 111 deletions. My hat goes off to you, good sir. --Peter Talk 21:37, 16 February 2009 (EST)

Yes, and the site was running painfully slow at the moment to boot :) – cacahuate talk 01:04, 17 February 2009 (EST)

Delinquent bureaucracy[edit]

More than a few en admins have been overlooked here:

The three at the bottom both have not contributed here in over two years, and are not active on :en. So I'm pretty sure that they should not be switched (although I might be forgetting a discussion somewhere). In any rate, it's good to keep them in this list in case they return. --Peter Talk 15:37, 19 March 2009 (EDT)

Alright, they all have sysop rights now, except for last three. Realizing now also that Tsandell hasn't been active in quite some time and seems to have left the project, but if and when he's desysopped on :en I'll do the same here – cacahuate talk 19:42, 21 March 2009 (EDT)

Hello Cacahuate, I'm operating a bot for maintaining interlanguage links on some language versions (en, fi, ja, nl, ru, zh), and I'd like to contribute to Hindi version with the bot. Are there pages like en:Wikitravel:Script policy and en:Wikitravel:Script nominations to get approval for a bot flag of hi:सदस्य:Tatatabot? If not, would you flip a bot flag for the bot without nomination process on the language version? -- Tatata 21:37, 13 May 2009 (EDT)

I don't believe those pages exist yet on :hi, and I'm the only active member at the moment anyhow, so I went ahead and gave it bot status. Thanks for getting that running, it's been a much needed bot for a while :) – cacahuate talk 20:23, 14 May 2009 (EDT)
I finished preparation of the bot for Hindi version. Thank you! -- Tatata 23:45, 14 May 2009 (EDT)

PD what?[edit]

Hi Cacahuate! Can you tell what's wrong here [5] and how to to correct it into the proper license? --Tsalanang 19:57, 1 June 2009 (EDT)

Nothing terribly wrong—we've simply replaced that old PD template with a more precise one. See discussion, if you are interested in why. --Peter Talk 20:08, 1 June 2009 (EDT)

Problems with the API?[edit]

Hi I apologise if I'm being dumb but I've tried to use some of the examples on the api page ala and they just return an empty dataset irrespective of parameters. I tried to login with the api using my wikitravel username/password and got the response "NoName". I don't need write access just read only for the moment, would you happen to know what I'm doing wrong? I bumped the issue on the travellers pub page but I've gotten no response and the original question posted by someone else hasn't been answered in months so I was hoping you might know?Dageshi 15:49, 31 July 2009 (EDT)

Not my forte, unfortunately :( Tatata? Peter? Jani? – cacahuate talk 03:58, 1 August 2009 (EDT)
O.K solved, it was something fairly trivial, the examples supplied on the have the html & notation rather than & between url arguments aka, replacing the & with & solves the problem aka which works. Dageshi 07:41, 1 August 2009 (EDT)

Request for the registration of new admin[edit]

Hi, this is shoestring, a bureaucrat of ja:. A couple of days ago we elected User:木更津乃風 as our new admin of ja:. I remember that the admin(s) of every local language will be entitled as the admins status of shared, automatically (i.e. without any nomination procedure). So would you please register him as one of the adins here? --Shoestring 12:12, 23 October 2009 (EDT)

Done – cacahuate talk 14:37, 23 October 2009 (EDT)
Thank you!--Shoestring 05:56, 24 October 2009 (EDT)

SVG for Map of Central America[edit]

Hi there. I'd like to translate Image:Map_of_Central_America.png into Portuguese, but the .svg link is in red and I can't find it. Could you possibly re-upload the svg or fix the link? Many thanks. Texugo 00:56, 19 September 2010 (EDT)
