Tech:Make uploads ccbysa3.0 by default

Is it possible on Special:Upload to remove "none selected" in the license pull-down menu and have it default to cc-by-sa1.0 3.0 unless a user selects otherwise? This seems like it will tidy up an annoying loose end. – cacahuate talk 03:31, 23 August 2007 (EDT)

You or I could do it, but I think there should be a total of five options - CC-by-SA 1.0, PD, Dual (CC-by-SA and GFDL), CC-by-SA all, and "Out-right copyvio" (for anything not explicitly CC-by-SA 1.0 or PD). -- Sapphire(Talk) • 04:52, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
Actually, I think it would be best to default to "Don't know". This will flag users who don't understand how licensing works. Jpatokal 05:18, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
I support Jani. I think the default should comply with the policy, or we should change the policy. -- Tatata 05:27, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
At Special:Upload it states that "All uploaded images are automatically licensed under CC-by-SA 1.0, if you are the original creator and you don't select a license."... so having that be the default in the scroll menu complies with policy just fine, no? Or better yet, what if leaving it at "none selected" prompts a non-ignorable error message prompting the user to select one? It forces users to make a choice, and avoids images getting uploaded without a license selected, which would be pretty ideal – cacahuate talk 22:43, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
The non-ignorable error message is fine. But, after the implementation of this function, I don't know whether we should check the correctness of license specified or not.
And, I think the statement on Special:Upload page is just saying a result of submitting because adding images without copyright information is prohibited in Wikitravel. -- Tatata 00:01, 24 August 2007 (EDT)

Bump! After some time, I'm still convinced that the best way forward is leaving "none selected" as the default and creating a non-ignorable error message that forces uploaders to select a license before proceeding. This can't be too hard, can it? – cacahuate talk 14:52, 23 October 2007 (EDT)

Me too, I'm gradually getting tired of checking each upload... ;-) BTW, isn't it better to change the title of this tech request for the non-ignorable error message ? -- Tatata 01:30, 24 October 2007 (EDT)
Lets make sure that whatever we do here, that it doesn't force anything when "uploading new versions". IWBDumb if you had to keep selecting licenses. --Peter Talk 16:56, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
I'm not sure how possible that would be.... but even if you have to, it seems like a better option than they way things are now – cacahuate talk 20:30, 25 June 2009 (EDT)
