What happens[edit]

Whenever I try to edit, I get an error message saying

Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data. Please try again. If it still doesn't work, try logging out and logging back in.

This does not stop me from editing or saving. I have set the "Show preview before edit box" option in my preferences, so it shows me a preview when I edit anything. Others might not see the same error. — Ravikiran 04:31, 31 July 2006 (EDT)

That usually happens when you've taken a long time between starting an edit and saving it. I'm not sure why it's there, but I'm sure there's a good reason for it. B-) Is it happening even for very short edits? --Evan 23:37, 11 August 2006 (EDT)

When it happens[edit]

1st example - When editing anonymously, this happens whenever I hit the "Save page" button before the page has finished loading - for example, I have a slow connection, and I do a very quick edit (such as an "undo"). I've done a little testing and I'm as sure as I can be that it happens EVERY time I try to "Save page" before that page has finished loading. I don't know if the same applies for logged-in users.

The workaround is to wait until the page has completely finished loading before hitting the "Save page" button. ~ 04:02, 25 October 2007 (EDT)

2nd example - This error also occurs whenever I have been editing a page, and try to save after re-logging in after having been automatically logged off. --Peter (who, as usual, has been automatically logged off) 05:18, 25 October 2007 (EDT)

This isn't really a bug, it's a feature, because if you've been logged off, then your session should not be allowed to do anything. 11:37, 25 October 2007 (EDT)

What should happen[edit]

How to fix it[edit]

The problem described in When it happens - 1st example could be fixed by having edit pages load with the Save page button disabled, and then enabling that button after everything else on the page has loaded and been initialised. ~ 06:02, 25 October 2007 (EDT)

I'm not sure that would be an improvement—rather it might just confuse editors. We've worked through this issue, and I think we've found that the existing "bug" is a bit of a necessity. I'm calling this closed. --Peter Talk 02:49, 21 March 2008 (EDT)
