I copied over the license templates from en:MediaWiki:Licenses, now visible here as MediaWiki:Licenses.

I kind of prefer the longer versions, since it's easier to keep them straight that way. Any objection to moving some of these to the longer versions in the license chooser? Alternately, we should change the tags in the chooser. --Evan 17:19, 28 April 2006 (EDT)

Go ahead -- the short versions are handy for manual entry, but with the chooser it doesn't matter. Jpatokal 00:17, 29 April 2006 (EDT)

Some more examples would be useful for location tag usage. For example sometimes the location tag will resolve to a place in a different country even though the IsIn tag is present to resolve that. --Terence s 07:15, 10 July 2007 (EDT)

Other licenses[edit]

I know we require that some form of cc-by-sa be used, but it would be nice if other copyright tags were available too to simplify import from Commons. For example, I imported something which was dual licensed with cc-by-sa and GFDL-1.2. Since it specified exactly which GFDL version can be used, I had to write that out explicitly. Would be nice if we had the {{GFDL-1.2}} tag. -- Cjensen 20:37, 29 December 2006 (EST)

Old images and recommendations[edit]

So I've added a note to say that old images are always {{cc-by-sa-1.0}} by default (because that's what the license at the bottom of the page says) and that {{cc-by-sa-all}} is the recommended license to use for new work. Jpatokal 03:31, 6 August 2007 (EDT)

A clear upload date is needed to apply the default license, because anyone cannot decide between {{cc-by-sa-1.0}} and {{Dont know}}. So I removed a sentence Any old images that predate the tag system..., which did not match with image policy. I think that the license at the bottom of the page is not related to upload images fundamentally. -- Tatata 04:45, 6 August 2007 (EDT)
