Yet another travel wiki[edit]

So there's yet another travel wiki coming up Real Soon Now(tm), and here's the head honcho's interesting, if (IMHO) not entirely coherent critique of Wikitravel's main page and its article layout. I'm less than convinced that his own layout is superior though... Jpatokal 13:14, 23 August 2006 (EDT)

Some of the content was copied from Montreal, so I sent him a pointer to the how-to-reuse page. -- Colin 13:36, 23 August 2006 (EDT)

Hardly a head honcho, just a little guy trying to make a change. I will definitely attiribute everything I take, I was just in the process of fixing the layout. The site is not live yet, and I entirely expect to be linking to Wikitravel throughout. As for my critique of Wikitravel, I personally think there is far too much text in one place - it reminds me of MP3 players prior to the Ipod. I understand your rationale, but I haven't met many people who print out a guide and take it with them. Like I said, I respect what you guys are doing information-wise - but it feels like I'm reading Wikipedia, not Wikitravel. As for the lack of coherence, my blog is small enough that I expected it to be more of a message between me and friends, not a press release.

I'm not Microsoft and I'm not out to put a bullet in anyone, just to see if I can't put an interesting twist on the GUI & looks. -- Jawaad —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talkcontribs)

You really need to take care of the attribution before using the guides that you've that you've used. Legally, someone could sue you for not having the proper attribution now and the site being accessible to the world. Plus, it's very impolite not to attribute the people whose work you're using. -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 14:30, 23 August 2006 (EDT)
The website is not live yet, it is just a testing phase to work out some design problems, but I will add in the attribution. Sorry for the mixup.
Hansm's alternative Wikitravel is going to be launched at the end of the month too, or at least the foundation that controls it. -- Sapphire
