West Bend (Wisconsin)
West Bend is a city in Washington County, Wisconsin.
The easiest and most common way to get to West Bend is to drive. Highway 45 comes up from the south. Highway 33 runs east and west through the city and across Wisconsin. Highway 144 enters the city from the north.
The city has one small airport, the West Bend Municipal Airport (KETB). Few charter flights may be available to and from the airport. There are no major airlines flying to or from the airport.
The Washington County Commuter Express runs between Milwaukee and West Bend. One way fares are $3.00 exact change. You may also purchase 10 tickets for $25.00
Again, the easiest way to get around is to drive. The roads are wide and there are few one-way streets. Traffic is usually not an issue.
There is also a taxi service in West Bend. Taxis have to be scheduled early to pick you up. They will almost always be very late however, so it is best to avoid the taxi service if at all possible.
West Bend is a very bicycle friendly city. There are many paths throughout the city to enjoy, and many establishments have bicycle racks. Please note that bicycles cannot be ridden on sidewalks in the downtown area. You will be asked to ride on the side of the street or walk your bike.
A popular method in the summer. Almost every street has a sidewalk. There are also many walking paths throughout various parks in the city.
There are many small shops and restaurants downtown. In the summer there is a farmers market every Saturday morning where various locally grown fruits and vegetables can be purchased.
Old Courthouse and Jail
Washington County's old courthouse and jail. Tours are given Monday through Friday. Tickets cost $2.00 per person.
Museum of Wisconsin Art
Across the street from the Old courthouse and the Library. The museum is open Wednesday thru Sunday. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for senior citizens and students.
West Bend's most popular park. Located just a few blocks north of Downtown, this large park features the city's swimming pool (it becomes an ice skating rink in winter), baseball field, many walking trails, playgrounds, soccer fields, tennis courts as well as many other interesting things. Many concerts and events are also held in the park during the summer months.
Visit a park There are many parks and natural areas in and around West Bend. Many of these parks are quite large.
Have a cup of coffee There are many small coffee shops popping up in West Bend.
Watch a ball game On some nights at Regner park you can catch a ball game.
Go fishing The Milwaukee river runs through West Bend and there are plenty of good fishing spots in the city. Also nearby are Wallace Lake, Little Cedar Lake, Silver Lake, and Big Cedar Lake.
Go for a walk There are many walking trails, mainly along the river and in West Bend's many parks.
West Bend's downtown is the best place to find many unique shops and restaurants. The shops downtown change often.
For larger retail outlets check Main Street and Paradise Ave. These larger stores include: Walmart, Menards, Home Depot, Kohl's, Shopko, Lane Bryant, Dress Barn, Elder Beerman's, as well as many others.
