Wagrain is a market town in Pongau in the Land Salzburg.

Salzburg airport for arrival by air from international destinations. Wagrain is just over a one hour drive from Salzburg (A10 motorway, Flachau exit, then route 163 for approx. 10km). The nearest railway stations are St. Johann im Pongau or Radstadt. The Post Bus service provides regular connections to and from Wagrain.

Wagrain is a great base for both alpine and cross-country skiing during the winter sports season. A complementary ski-bus service shuttles between the different slopes and cross country trails. The cross country trails are groomed for both traditional and freestyle skiing. Complementary maps of the ski slopes and cross country trails are available from the Tourist Information office. A particularly scenic trail runs from Kleinarl to Järgersee

There are two small supermarkets within a 5 min walk from the market square. In addition to stocking the basics it is also possible to stock up on traditional Austrian chocolates and souvenirs. At the market square there are tourist shops selling a variety of arts and crafts. The local pharmacy is to be found 150m along Wagrainer Strasse (Route 163, towards Flachau).

Wagrain is well served with the usual tourist options for accommodation mainly small hotels and guest houses. It is advised to make an early reservation if intending to stay over during the Austrian winter holiday season in February.


The Tourist Information office is located at Markt 14 5602 Wagrain and is clearly sign-posted from the junction of routes 163 and L214.
