Vittoriosa (Birgu in Maltese) is a small, fortified city situated in a creek of the Grand Harbour in Malta. Though its origins stretch back to the Middle Ages and earlier, much of the Vittoriosa we see today was constructed by the Knights of Saint John, the Catholic order which controlled the Maltese Islands from 1530 till 1798.

Understand[edit]

Though smaller than Valletta, which was founded in 1566, Vittoriosa is much older, and served as the Order of Saint John's first headquarters in Malta. Despite its small size and population, the city has a lot to offer, both culturally and in terms of entertainment, which many restaurants, shops and historic sites to visit.
