Venus Bay is a small hamlet of 500 odd on the bay of the same name in Victoria, Australia.

This regions main attraction is collecting Pipis, fishing and spending time at the 5 beaches imaginatively named Beach 1, Beach 2, Beach 3, Beach 4 and Beach 5.

By car[edit]

From Melbourne, turn onto the South Gippsland Highway from the Princes Highway at the suburb of Dandenong. Turn off at Tarwin Lower Road and head towards Tarwin Lower. Follow the signs from Tarwin Lower to reach Venus Bay.

  • Surf fishing and collecting Pipis, Fish can be caught in the surf. Pipis can be found by digging up to 10cm in the tidal area. They are more commonly found in summer. Make sure you have a fishing license and read the fishing guide before starting.
  • Swimming at the beach.
  • Boating There's a boat ramp at the end of Fishermans Rd. It's only recommended for shallow flat bottomed boats to attempt to launch as the water near the ramp can be as shallow as 1 metre.

Stay safe[edit]

This area is generally safe but exercise basic precautions and do not leave valuables in the car.

Swimming may be hazardous as strong currents exist. Only swim between the flags at lifeguard patrolled beaches. Lifeguards are on duty during summer (December-February).

Make sure you understand and follow the rules and regulations pertaining to fishing. This does not apply to everyone but be careful about accepting information from a local who offers advice on rules and regulation as this can be at worst misleading causing you to be liable for fines from the Department of Environment and Primary Industries.
