Västervik is served by eight trains daily to/from Linköping, where it is possible to change trains to/from Stockholm and Copenhagen. The travel time between Linköping and Västervik is about 1 hour 50 min. During the summer season it is also possible to travel by narrow gauge trains between Västervik and Hultsfred, where it is possible to change trains to/from Kalmar and Vimmerby.
Västervik's harbour Lucerna is served by ferries to/from Visby (Gotland) during the summer operated by Destination Gotland. The crossing to Gotland takes about 2 hour 30 min.
There are 2 - 3 daily direct buses connecting Västervik and Stockholm. The travel time by bus between Stockholm and Västervik is a bit more than 4 hours. There are also buses operated by the county (Kalmar länstrafik) to Kalmar. These buses leave hourly and the travel time between Västervik and Kalmar are about 2 hours 30 min.
Västervik's airport does not have any scheduled flights but is open to private aircraft. The closest airport with scheduled flights is Linköping airport.
Getting around in the centre is best done by foot.
Local buses are run by Kalmar Länstrafik. Line 1 runs from Örbäcken via the train station to Gertrudsvik from 05.30 am to 10.30 am (Friday and Saturday nights until after midnight). Line 2 runs from the train station to Gunnebo from 7 am to 7 pm (no Sunday service). During the summer line 5 runs from the train station to camping resort Västervik Resort and also connect to Lucerna harbour when there are ferries to/from Visby (Gotland).
Municipial ferries operate year round to/from Gränsö, Östra Skälö/Åldersbäck, Klintemåla och Horns Udde. Non-residents should pre-book their journey one day ahead by calling 0490-910 19 (Gränsö) or 070-444 57 08 (other destinations). During the summer there are regular ferries to Hasselö and Idö which need no pre-booking.
