Located In Schuylkill County, Orwigsburg has a population of 2,797 people. Even though Orwigsburg might seem like small town, country life there are still a lot of fun activities to do.
Orwisburg is convienantly located of Route 61. Locations that are larger near Orwigsburg that you would be more likely to hear of first are Pottsville (Home of Yuengling Beer) and Hamburg. If you are traveling from Philadelphia to Orwigsburg there are three major routes that would get you there. Leaving Temple University you would travel south on Broad Street and take I-76 West towards Valley Forge. This is where you can then take three different routes. The first one would be to take the turnpike that leads to Allentown, Pennsylvania. In order to acess the turnpike you would get off at exit 331B on I-476 North towards Plymouth Meeting and continue on the turnpike for 41 miles. Once on the turnpike you would get off at exit 56 which leads to US-22 towards I-78 Harrisburg. The next exit woukld be 29B towards Pottsville, continue on this road for about 10 miles and make a right onto South Liberty Street which would lead you right into the town of Orwigsburg. If you chose not take the turnpike towards Plymouth Meeting you could take two more different ways. First, continue on 76 West towards Valley Forge. From there you could take 422 West towards Pottstown or also another toll road towards Morgantown, Pennsylvania. In the end both roads will eventually meet up right before Reading, Pennsylvania. If you chose 422 you would be on the road for about 42 miles after you merged on after Valley Forge.
SInce Orwigsburg is a small country town you will need your own transportation. There are no taxi services in the close area. However, bus routes are available to Orwigsburg and close areas. If you do not have your own form of transportation you can use the STS Bus (Schuylkill Transit Service) or rent a car for your own convenience.
There is not too much to see in Orwigsburg. There is a small museum about the history of the town, but it will not take you much time to see. However, there are different things in the close area that are very interesting. The area in which Orwigsburg is located is probably best known for Yuengling Beet. Pottsville, Pennsylvania, home of Yuengling Beer, is located about ten minutes aaway from Orwigsburg. The brewery offers tours of America's Oldest Brewery. If you decide to visit Orwigsburg during the first week of August you can attend the Schuylkill County Fair. The Fair offers a variety of different foods, entertainment, vendors, and rides.
Since Orwigsburg is located in the country there isn't a lot of "city-life" activities to do. Most of the area that surrounds Orwigsburg is known for the beauty it holds. The popular Appalachian Mountains are located a short five minutes from Orwigsburg, The mountains are well known for hiking trails and spectacular views. Tuscarora State Park is located about fifteen minutes from Orwigsburg and offers lots of hiking trails, picnic tables, and a lake where people can go boating and lay out on the white sand.
Since there is not tons of major tourist sites in the area there are not too many many souvenirs that peopple buy. DIfferent small shops and grocery stores offer different items (sweatpants, sweatshirts, small trinkets) with Orwigsburg written on it. Also, Yuengling Brewery offers any different items with its logo on it.

There are no bars in Orwigsburg, just basically the restaurants that either have bars in them or serve alcohol.
There are no hotels in Orwigsburg. However, there are hotels in the close area. Country Squire, Days Inn, Microtel Suites, and Ramada Inn are all located within fifteen minutes of Orwigsburg.
To get out of Orwisburg you would make your way back to Route 61 and depending on where you are traveling next you would go north or south until you find the major highway you need.
