The main road through Tyndrum.

Tyndrum is a quite popular tourist village, especially for walkers. The hills around Tyndrum offer fantastic hillwalking like the West Highland Way. It has a campsite, a hotel and many other accommodations for tourists and walkers.

Get in[edit]

By train[edit]

The West Highland Railway runs through Tyndrum. It should be noted that Tyndrum is the smallest settlement in the UK with more than one railway station. The stations are Upper Tyndrum and Tyndrum Lower, each serving a different branch of the railway due to the geography of the glen here. Upper Tyndrum is served by trains from Glasgow to Fort William and Mallaig, in addition to the Caledonian Sleeper to/from London Euston. Tyndrum Lower is served by trains from Glasgow (and Edinburgh on summer Sundays) to Oban. The Glasgow - Oban and Glasgow - Mallaig trains usually join and split at Crianlarich, a few miles down the glen.

All trains that operate to/from Tyndrum are operated by First Scotrail [1].

By bus[edit]

Scottish Citylink [2] operate daily bus services to and from Glasgow, Fort William and the Isle of Skye, in addition to Edinburgh, Oban and Dundee in the summer season.

First Scotland East operates a bus service to and from Callander twice per day on schooldays only [3].

By road[edit]

Tyndrum is a meeting point of the major A82 (between Glasgow and Inverness) and A85 (between Perth and Oban) roads.

Get around[edit]

The village is small enough to explore on foot. The long-haul Citylink services double as the local bus service in this part of the world, however one should bear in mind that tickets are very expensive if bought on the bus.
