Tunceli is a city in Eastern Anatolia, Turkey.

Tunceli, home of 31,600 people, is surrounded by the Munzur Mountains, a mountain range considered holy by the locals most of which are Alevis, the largest non-Sunni Muslim group in the country. Munzur Valley National Park, one of the richest floristic areas of Anatolia, is a short bus ride outside the city centre.

Get in[edit]

By plane[edit]

The nearest airport is in Elazığ. Minibuses run by "Can Munzur VIP" run frequently from the airport to Tunceli. The trip takes approx. two hours and you can also use a ferryboat on the way, while crossing dam lake.

Malatya further southwest is another option for airport.

By bus[edit]

Direct bus services from most of the bigger cities in the area are run by "Can Dersim Tuncelililer". For instance, a direct trip from Diyarbakır takes 5 hours and 2.5 hours from Elazığ. Just show up at the local bus station (otogar) and ask for the bus company, they don't have their own website yet.

By train[edit]

Tunceli doesn't have any railway connection. Elazığ is the site of the nearest station for trains arriving from west.
