Happy New Year[edit]

A new year with hopefully many new travel experiences! Who has made travel plans already? Where will you be going this year? Any destination tips based on your past travels? Let's share them and work on the respective destination articles! Happy travels and happy editing! Adzas (talk) 05:23, 1 January 2021 (EST)

I would love to make a trip to Canada. We have recently featured Banff, which is definitely on my list. What other places should I visit there? Let's share some thoughts here, so we can then add content to those articles! Adzas (talk) 11:28, 8 January 2021 (EST)
With all the travel bans and the pandemic still going on I'd probably stay in Italy. There are so many places I haven't seen in a long time or never visited at all. For example, I'd love to visit Naples and the archaeological area of Pompei. GiulioC (talk) 04:00, 24 January 2021 (EST)
GiulioC, it's a good idea! I was in Pompei many years ago. Maybe you can mention Vesuvius volcano? Climbing here isn't hard but view is so stunning! I can also suggest maybe Russian Far North like Murmansk? Golden Auste (talk) 06:39, 24 January 2021 (EST)Golden Auste

February 2021 homepage[edit]

It's almost time to update our homepage! Let's think about places we'd like to visit as soon as the pandemic is over. GiulioC (talk) 03:57, 24 January 2021 (EST)

I love a post-pandemic wish list! Italy, Mexico, Cuba for me! IBobi (User talk:IBobi|talk]]) 15:41, 25 January 2021 (EST)
Sth colder, maybe Murmansk or Greenland ? Golden Auste (talk) 15:54, 25 January 2021 (EST)Golden Auste
Cuba is on my list too! Shall we feature a location there? What about Viñales, looks lovely. In the New Year post you mention Pompeii GiulioC. Such an impressive place, would love to go back there again. It could be our DOM? Adzas (talk) 04:23, 26 January 2021 (EST)
I guess we could choose a warm place like Cuba and a colder one like Greenland. As for Pompei, there has been new incredible discoveries in recent times that will soon be on display soon. The whole archaeological area has been improved and cleaned. Sooner or later I would love to see it on our homepage. GiulioC (talk) 04:40, 26 January 2021 (EST)
I'd prefer maybe Beira, Xai-Xai, Bazaruto Archipelago, Ponta d'Ouro, Tofo Beach or Vilanculos in Mozambique, Nkhata Bay, Blantyre, Cape Maclear or Zomba in Malawi, Kano or Lagos in Nigeria. Outside Africa, I'd suggest Guyana, Suriname or French Guyana. Pompei is also good. I liked this place. Golden Auste (talk) 06:19, 26 January 2021 (EST)Golden Auste
I second Greenland! Although realistically I won't be leaving the States again for some time, pandemic or not. So first up on my personal agenda is the Pacific Northwest, to be in a wedding. --IBJoel (talk) 15:52, 26 January 2021 (EST)
What about a location on Greenland for OBP, like for example Qaqortoq (I've been there, amazing!), a location in Cuba as DOM, and the ruins of Pompei as landmark of the month? Adzas (talk) 18:21, 27 January 2021 (EST)
Wow, Qaqortoq looks good and it could be a perfect OTBP. Cuba or some other place in the Caribbean are also good unless we want to move to the other side of the world and choose Perth. If everyone is ok then I'll check Pompei article to make it a good landmark article. GiulioC (talk) 08:42, 28 January 2021 (EST)
I worry about Cuba a little, since the US may have a harder time going there in the near future, and a lot of WT readers are from the USA...IBobi (talk) 16:20, 28 January 2021 (EST)
Is that due to Covid or are there other restrictions coming up for US citizens to travel to Cuba? Here (EU) several countries are closing boarders again, so I don't think we can travel anywhere soon at all, but it is still nice to dream and explore the places here online. But we can choose another location for DOM. Perth was suggested, shall we go there instead? Adzas (talk) 04:21, 29 January 2021 (EST)
There are travel restrictions a bit everywhere, and I don't think these bans will be lifted soon. So, let's just focus on places we'd like to visit one day or another. GiulioC (talk) 11:00, 29 January 2021 (EST)

Site Issues[edit]

Just a quick note, although I've noticed it for month now. The TrustArc cookies control is very tempremental. I've tried on multiple computers (always in Chrome though), unless I zoom out on the page the options drop over the screen and do not allow scrolling. Once zoomed out so I can click on the buttons unless I am on the home page none of the options are clickable so I cannot save the options to close making the site unusable. I thought it might be the plugins in use on my browser, but even with them all switched off I still get this issue.

Thank you, I will inform our tech team --IBJoel (talk) 17:48, 18 February 2021 (EST)

Change this[edit]

Remove the suicide part of the Lithuania article. It's mean to Lithuania, the worst part of wikitravel and i don't want to read it becuase of it. Most things about clothes written here is wrong becuase it's told that poeple in all countries wear much clothes and that's skirts is bad. So you could change that or remove it. Clothes and language is worse on wikitravel and is why the site isn't the best site about countries. You should remove languange of wikitravel. —The preceding comment was added by Rebourne Ohc (talkcontribs)

March 2021 homepage[edit]

Hey it's almost time to update our homepage! What would you like to see? Where would you like to go? Share your ideas! GiulioC (talk) 05:25, 23 February 2021 (EST)

What about a location in Costa Rica for DOM? I came across the article for Dana Nature Reserve, needs some pictures but could be a nice OBP? As landmark of the month we could do a flowery picture somewhere (tulips from Holland, blossems in Japan etc). If anything else comes up I will share. Adzas (talk) 04:46, 25 February 2021 (EST)
I would offer Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for the OBP. Some time ago renewed information about them. Also, I can help Adzas with blooming pictures from Holland & Japan. Ryte 25 February 2021.
Cherry blossom in Japan is one of the country's main events as far as I remember, and it happens between March and April. I like Ryte's idea about Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There are many places in Costa Rica worth visiting. What about Cartago? GiulioC (talk) 05:32, 25 February 2021 (EST)
Cherry blossoms're so cool! As OBP I'd chose for Tuzla or Albanian Alps. Golden Auste (talk) 07:04, 25 February 2021 (EST)Golden Auste
I also love the idea about Hawaii Volcanoes National Park! Adzas (talk) 12:27, 25 February 2021 (EST)
Articles suggested by Golden Auste look good but they both need some work in my opinion, so I think they could be used later. I also see that the Hawaiian volcanoes are really appreciated. I was looking again at Costa Rica, what about its capital San José? GiulioC (talk) 08:23, 27 February 2021 (EST)
I've looked a bit San Jose and it looks interesting. Golden Auste (talk) 08:35, 27 February 2021 (EST)Golden Auste
It is lack of pictures in San José, Cartago on this respect looks better. Ryte 27 February 2021.

Update Haiti for March 2021[edit]

Hi my name is Hailey Keller and I am wondering if anyone can update the warning box at the top of the Haiti article. because there is new protests going on in Haiti right now as of March 2021 I heard that on the internet and just want it updated incase anyone wants to go there so they can get updated info.

Hi Hailey, I'll go ahead and edit that. Thank you for the head's up! Big world to keep track of. --IBJoel (talk) 18:27, 19 March 2021 (EDT)

April 2021 homepage[edit]

April is coming and it's time to update our homepage. What would you like to see or where would you like to go? With the vaccination campaign going on I believe some travel bans will be lifted for the summer. I'd love to visit northern Europe: Scania is a beautiful region in southern Sweden, also quite close to Denmark and its capital Copenhagen. Share your thoughts! GiulioC (talk) 05:28, 25 March 2021 (EDT)

For a European destination Sweden would be lovely yes. For our US travelers, what about Hilton Head Island? I never heard of it before, looks lovely! Just came across Guyana, don't think we covered anything there, like Mabaruma as OBP (needs content though..) or Paramakatoi. Will think a bit more! Adzas (talk) 15:21, 27 March 2021 (EDT)
I would add to the OBP Etosha National Park. Park with the small and large salt pans, abundant wildlife gathering around the waterholes and the great place to observe the game in their natural environment. Ryte 27 March 2021.
Hilton Head Island looks good to me. Guyana was never covered but there's still a lot to do on those pages, so maybe we should work a bit on those and use them later. The Etosha National Park is beautiful and could also be a perfect OBP. GiulioC (talk) 03:55, 28 March 2021 (EDT)
For sure, let's work a bit on those articles for the upcoming months. I do love the Etosha National Park destination, but I believe the best time to visit is between July-October, not too early to feature this? For other destinations I'll think a bit more Adzas (talk) 04:01, 28 March 2021 (EDT)
Just checking, have we ever featured Florida Keys? GiulioC (talk) 09:48, 30 March 2021
I’m not sure if we featured this region before. If we do, maybe we should pick one of the lesser known locations there (well, lesser known to me....), like Islamorada or Marathon. Or even Biscayne National Park. We could do a Park theme, as above also Etosha National Park was mentioned? I’ll work a bit on the Guyana articles the coming weeks so we can use that next time. Adzas (talk) 10:16, 30 March 2021 (EDT)
Yes, a park theme could be good. The Key islands look nice, I'd choose any of them except for Key West which is very well-known also outside the US. GiulioC (talk) 04:03, 31 March 2021 (EDT)

In Africa to be specific Tanzania we are yet start with the COVID vaccination infact there was never a lockdown throughoht 2020, the country is OPEN for international visitors, no quarantine required. Most travelers head for Safari or Cool off at the coast Zanzibar Island welcome (added by 93.185.234.1 (talk)

May 2021 homepage[edit]

There's becomming warmer and warmer, so it's a high time to chose May's destionations. I'd vote for Pridnestrovie, Tiraspol or Moldova at all. I'd also vote for Kragujevac, Novi Pazar, Subotica, Suriname, Tuvalu or Kiribati.Golden Auste (talk) 15:38, 22 April 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste

I think last month several lovely locations were mentioned that we can still work on, like Scania for DOM, Paramakatoi for OBP, Kiribati's article looks nice too, the locations in Serbia need some work (ex. listings not as per our guidelines), then could be nice for future months. Adzas (talk) 04:59, 24 April 2021 (EDT)
As I've read recently more and more places are opening in Europe like Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, France or Austria. How about those countries I'd like to vote for Wiener Neustadt as a place for a short trip from Vienna, other locations in Austria Zell am See or Burgenland region for its multicultural character. I'd vote for The Hague or Rotterdam in Netherlands. Golden Auste (talk) 05:34, 24 April 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
When we vote, it is best to mention 2 or 3 locations here (out of the 14 locations mentioned already above, make a smaller selection), that makes it easier to select. We need one Destination of the Month and one Off the Beaten path, articles that have good content with pictures. I don’t know about the other countries mentioned, but the situation in the Netherlands is still very bad with over 9000 daily cases, and quarantine rules apply for travelling to and from certain countries, probably best to still leave that out of it when voting, just let’s select beautiful places (spread out over the world) that we want to admire one day. Adzas (talk) 09:24, 26 April 2021 (EDT)
Well, we have many options this month. Let's just focus on beautiful places since travelling restrictions are still effective in many countries. I like Suriname and Kragujevac, both need some editing though. Scania is good (and there are some nice cities there too), we can definitely use it. We can then work o other articles mentioned here so they can be used in the next months. GiulioC (talk) 10:02, 26 April 2021 (EDT)
Scania is nice but I think we may vote for Wiener Neustadt, Kragujevac or Suriname as OBP. We can also chose sth on Swedish Far North as Kiruna.Golden Auste (talk) 12:07, 26 April 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
The Wiener Neustadt article is too short and has no pictures, so that needs more work for a next time. I like Kragujevac, I don't think we have featured Serbia before. Kiribati was also mentioned above, looks great too, or Suriname, but then shall we pick a location there, or we want to feature the country? Adzas (talk) 12:54, 26 April 2021 (EDT)
Yes, Serbia is an interesting destination. How about Suriname, I've mixed feelings. On one hand the whole country looks interesting, if I had to chose the special destination here I'd pick Paramaribo as there's the best article on places in Suriname IMO Golden Auste (talk) 13:53, 26 April 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
Paramaribo has no pictures and needs a little bit of editing in my opinion. I'd choose Suriname and Kragujevac (we never featured Serbian locations as far as I remember). GiulioC (talk) 05:01, 29 April 2021 (EDT)

Destination of the Month[edit]

Almost time again to update our DOM, OBP, Cuisine of the Month, Language of the month, etc. Any suggestions? Adzas (talk) 12:46, 25 May 2021 (EDT)

I found a couple of nice places in Georgia: Savannah and Stone Mountain (don't remember them as DOM/OTBP before). We could maybe focus on the southern region of USA? GiulioC (talk) 04:36, 26 May 2021 (EDT)
The Savannah article looks nice. Just thinking, next month is also the Euro 2020, maybe we could pick a landmark in one of the host cities, and highlight the event. Adzas (talk) 18:39, 26 May 2021 (EDT)
Yes! As for the landmark we could choose a lesser known landmark, like Bucharest or Budapest. GiulioC (talk) 03:57, 27 May 2021 (EDT)
Eh, Budapest or Bucharest are a bit too commercial, especially the first one. I'd like to chose Skopje, Sofia, Chisinau or Vaduz as DOM, how about OBP, maybe sth in Ukraine? I'd chose Dnipro or Odesa, there're many low-cost airlines flying from Europe to Odesa. I'd also chose Lviv as DOM. How about languages, maybe Ukrainian. Golden Auste (talk) 08:35, 28 May 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
Skopje looks good to me, the others need some editing and cleaning (not too much though). As for the landmark, there are others we can choose from the Euro 2020 hosting cities. GiulioC (talk) 11:06, 28 May 2021 (EDT)
Baku or Saint Petersburg can be interesting place for Euro 2021 I suppose. Golden Auste (talk) 11:25, 28 May 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
Budapest Castle could be a nice landmark, or Revolution square in Bucharest. We now have a European OBP, so let's think of another part of the world for that I think. We could use Skopje for cuisine? Just need some pictures there... or cuisine Seville, to stay with the Euro 2020... DOM I like the above mentioned Savannah. Adzas (talk) 05:13, 30 May 2021 (EDT)
Maybe sth in Turkey as OBP like Kars, Van , Samsun or Trabzon. Golden Auste (talk) 05:46, 30 May 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
Seville for cuisine? I agree, the Andalusian cuisine is fantastic...If we're going to choose a non-european location as OBP there are many Japan related articles that have been improved recently. Tashirojima looks interesting, also Sendai could be a good choice. GiulioC (talk) 03:48, 31 May 2021 (EDT)

July 2021 topics[edit]

Have you considered choosing your destinations for July? As ECDC proclaimed COVID- safe green zones in Europe :[1] maybe if you chose sth from Europe we can pick any city/region in those countries. I'd vote for DOM Jura Mountains, Turku, Vidin or Vysoke Tatry. As OBP : Mayotte, Martinique, Graz , Pecs or Szeged. Travel article : Freighter travel. Golden Auste (talk) 05:42, 21 June 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste

Yes, Europe is getting definitely better, and the new Green Pass is going to help travelers a lot. Most of the articles mentioned above look good to me, some need a bit more info though. I'd go with Turku and Graz as they look a bit more complete. I'll be thinking about other locations also outside Europe. GiulioC (talk) 05:13, 22 June 2021 (EDT)
Hmmm, how about non-European countries, I think Mexico can be a good place, cases of COVID are very low and they also have green zones. I think about places as Mazunte, Zipolite, San Cristobal de las Casas, Taxco, Puebla or Veracruz. San Cristobal de las Casas could be good for OBP. Golden Auste (talk) 05:50, 22 June 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
Turku in See section has a lot of non working websites. Graz is also with some non working websites, also it includes footnotes. Respect themselves and wikitravelers too. Before making offer, put a page in order. This will be cool respect what we see on the main page! Ryte 22 June 2021
I agree with Ryte, when suggesting articles, we should make sure they are following our guidelines (overall, hard to check all links etc, but it needs to be attractive to read), or if we really want a specific location, we can work on it (together), add pictures and make sure it follows the rules. This month we covered Europe quite a bit due to the Euro 2020, maybe we should think about some more unknown locations outside Europe. Maybe work a bit on Turku for future location? I will think about some suggestions, not sure yet, maybe something in Indonesia, Mozambique (Vilanculos looks nice, needs some pictures first). I will think a bit more. Adzas (talk) 18:25, 22 June 2021 (EDT)
Turku can be interesting, how about Austria, we can propose Wiener Neustadt, it can be a nice proposition for one day trip from Vienna or even a small city break. I'd vote for Wiener Neustadt as OBP. How about places outside Europe, maybe East Timor. I'd also vote for Tajikistan as a country or its capital city Dushanbe. As the not much known country, maybe Turkmenistan ? Golden Auste (talk) 05:21, 23 June 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
OK, Adzas. Nice your idea about Indonesia. Organize a visit to one of the world’s orangutan sanctuaries Sumatra, Bukit Lawang to observe nature and their habitats. This destination is only possible with OBP. Ryte 23 June 2021
We have many good articles about places in and around Indonesia, definitely good OBP's. Natural parks and reserves, monuments and archaeological areas, there's so much to choose from. Borobudur is just an example. GiulioC (talk) 04:50, 24 June 2021 (EDT)
Just to add to the lists, for a future month though, just came across this article about Nazca, looks very interesting, with a bit of work and some pictures we can use that next time. For July, I love Borobudur and Bukit Lawang. Which to choose..... I like the suggestion for Mexico as well but most mentioned articles have no pictures or not meeting our standard. What about Borobudur for DOM, we can feature Bukit Lawang as landmark, Indonesian cuisine (keep a theme). OBP we still have a bit more time to work on or think about.... Adzas (talk) 17:07, 28 June 2021 (EDT)
I agree, Nazca article needs some work and pictures and it'll be great. In my opinion Borobudur can be DOM and one of those mexican locations OBP (I can work on some of them). GiulioC (talk) 04:31, 29 June 2021 (EDT)
Nazca is cool. How about Mexico, there're many articles, we can chose a one for OBP or Picture of the Month.Golden Auste (talk) 04:39, 29 June 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste

August 2021 homepage[edit]

It's almost time to update our homepage! Share your ideas! GiulioC (talk) 09:44, 28 July 2021 (EDT)

Last month we have left a few cities for the future, so now we can use them. It could be Mazunte, Taxco, Veracruz (all from Mexico) or Wiener Neustadt (Austria). In addition I could offer one more UNESCO listed city from Bolivia Sucre. So, what the other minds? Ryte 29 July 2021
Yes, I was thinking the same, we could use some of the many locations mentioned in previous discussions. Sucre and Wiener Neustadt look good to me, though the latter needs a bit more content and pictures. Karlovy Vary recently became a UNESCO site since it's part of the "Great Spa towns of Europe" (more here). What do you think? GiulioC (talk) 02:59, 30 July 2021 (EDT)
Karlovy Vary for DOM, one of the Mexican locations for OBP? We could keep Bolivia for next time, or use it for Landmark of the Month and cuisine etc. All locations make me want to travel! Adzas (talk) 03:34, 30 July 2021 (EDT)
I'd put Veracruz or Taxco as DOM, Wiener Neustadt for OBP. I'm also thinking about some destinations in Turkey like Trabzon, Dogubeyazit or Kars. Golden Auste (talk) 04:39, 30 July 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste

September topics[edit]

I just came across this article, Salar de Uyuni, looks interesting, shall we use that for next month? Sucre that was mentioned last month we didn’t use yet, so we can use that too in September? I’ll think of other exciting sights. Adzas (talk) 09:44, 24 August 2021 (EDT)

Really they are nice, but let's choose only one of them, because both from Bolivia. This time I can offer beautiful Waterton Lakes National Park situated on the US-Canada border. The other destination would be from New Zealand – Te Anau town, the gateway to Fiordland. Ryte 24 August 2021
Great locations you picked! As we also need to cover a Landmark of the Month, language and cuisine, we could still use 2 locations in Bolivia, not a problem, but lets see what further input we get. Love all of the above! Adzas (talk) 05:26, 25 August 2021 (EDT)
Ryte, both locations you chose look amazing! Salar de Uyuni could be a perfect landmark, we could also feature bolivian cuisine. Not sure about the language though...Te Anau is in New Zealand, what about Maori as language? We also have a Maori phrasebook article! GiulioC (talk) 08:38, 25 August 2021 (EDT)
I'd suggest a mountain place, mountain hikes are the most popular in fall season. Zakopane, Tatra Mountains, Krynica-Zdrój or Jura Mountains look nice. IMO Pogoria Lakes also look fine in autumn. If I had any photos, I'd add Jura Wieluńska, Wisła or Bor. As for exotic place, maybe Dar es Salaam. Golden Auste (talk) 06:37, 27 August 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
I like Giulio's summary, using all the locations we mentioned, sounds like a plan. The above Polish locations could be interesting for an OBP destination, but none of the articles is meeting our manual of style properly, so first those articles would need some work and pictures. For OBP we still have some time, as we usually post that later, so let's find a nice location with an article that is ready to use. Adzas (talk) 07:43, 27 August 2021 (EDT)
Or maybe some cities for city break like: Bytom, Katowice, Częstochowa or Tarnów. Moreover there's a pride march in Katowice in beginning of September, I've even mentioned it in the article. Golden Auste (talk) 08:02, 27 August 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
Looks great! --IBJoel (talk) 16:12, 3 September 2021 (EDT):::::::::Thanks. Golden Auste (talk) 16:16, 3 September 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste

October 2021 homepage[edit]

Hey it's almost time to update our homepage! Shall we focus on winter/snowy/Xmas locations or somewhere sunnier and warmer? Share your thoughts! GiulioC (talk) 03:34, 25 September 2021 (EDT)

Let's not forget that autumn is not yet at its top and Halloween is waiting for us. This time, my suggestions are very closely related to the Halloween theme. So I tried to arrange them in the following order:
DOM: Salem (Massachusetts) city famous for different witchy rituals, where you can be involved into the ghost hunting, magical readings or visiting the witch museums. Great place to celebrate Halloween.
OBP: Galway needs to be mentioned twice. One is that Galway is European Capital of Culture 2021 and another reason that the old Halloween traditions originated namely here, in Ireland.
COF: All what remains is to offer a Transylvanian lunch for Halloween after which awaits trip to the Dracula's Castle for searching the haunting adventures.
LOM: Hell's Gate National Park with the horrific name situated in Kenya is worth of travelers attention.
Language: any what is hard to learn. Ryte 25 September 2021
As it's Halloween time I'd also propose sth from Haunted places in Lesser Poland or Haunted places in Silesian Voivodeship as Tarnów, Zamość or just full Haunted places in Silesian Voivodeship as last year there were places in Lesser Poland were here last year. If you think about single cities from Silesian Voivodeship, I think it can be Sosnowiec as article's good made and also offer many attraction, it can be eventually Będzin. As OBP I'd vote for Chișinău, Dnipro, Kharkiv or Rzeszów as interesting alternatives for city breaks. As POM Dąbrowa Górnicza or Pogoria Lakes.Golden Auste (talk) 07:52, 25 September 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
We could pick a landmark of the month to cover Halloween (we did Bran Castle last year, maybe one of those haunted places in Poland, but articles need to be checked first if they follow our guidelines and we need a good picture...). As we usually think ahead we should definitely think about some nice winter locations, one with snow, one with sun? We usually cover the Northern Lights (I love them!) but I guess we need something more original this time.... I will think a bit more. I like Hell's Gate National Park but maybe as OBP?Adzas (talk) 13:59, 25 September 2021 (EDT)
Good idea with Northern Lights! I think Tromso, Iceland, eventually Greenland or Arctic Alaska can be good. Golden Auste (talk) 16:25, 25 September 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
OK, then there are the couple of snowy places. Portillo the tiny spot in the Andes, the world's longest continental mountain 7000 km range and Whistler - large ski area in British Columbia, Canada. Ryte 27 September 2021
Good idea to have a Halloween-related landmark, Salem is great and also Zamość, and I'd like to mention Sleepy Hollow. The haunted places in Poland We then could choose a ski/Northern Lights resort and a warmer place. Tromsø could be a good choice. A warmer one? Any idea? GiulioC (talk) 11:11, 29 September 2021 (EDT)
Maybe Hurghada, Comoros or Zanzibar? Golden Auste (talk) 12:15, 29 September 2021 (EDT)Golden Auste
Zamość and Sleepy Hollow are good, but without any dead links. Hurghada is nice. Tromso once was featured as OBP. Instead of it I propose town Ruka. It's really has Northern Lights and is enough snowy place. For the warmer places it is possible to take Cairns from Australia. Ryte 29 September 2021

November 2021 homepage[edit]

Hey, we have only a few days left to decide what we'd like to see on the homepage, share your thoughts! GiulioC (talk) 09:26, 26 October 2021 (EDT)

Giulio, the last your wish was the warmer places, so my proposal would be Cairns, Gamba. Cairns is in Australia and has great locations towards the Great Barrier Reef, Daintree National Park, and the Tropical North Queensland with scenic rides, hiking, and diving. The extreme lovers can try bungy jumping, sky skydiving, or white water rafting. Gamba is a small town near Atlantic Oceanfront in the Central Africa green zone with low-land rainforest, marshes, with spots of the hilly savanna. The nature lovers there can watch fauna from huge animals like elephants to very small creatures as sea turtles or even smaller frogs, which here are ample and varied.
Sariska Reserve and National Park suits for the safari lovers to watch small Royal Bengal Tiger Population in India western part.
UK town Tewkesbury boasts the renowned medieval streetscape, great cruising location, impressive walks, and of course by Tewkesbury Medieval Festival.
What will be the minds of others? Ryte 26 October 2021
I'm not sure but I think we already featured Cairns in the past. Anyway, I still think of warmer places, Gamba could be good but it needs some editing. I was also thinking about a location in the UK such as Tewkesbury. There are many towns in the same area like Cheltenham, Cirencester or the Cotswolds. These all need a few pictures and a bit of editing. Let's wait and see for others' ideas. GiulioC (talk) 03:15, 27 October 2021 (EDT)
I like the location in India, don't think we featured much there. I also came across Mammoth Cave National Park, we could do something with that too maybe. What about using Harbin Ice Festival or Harbin for a nice winter destination? (I believe the festival starts in January). For warm weather Langkawi seems nice too, with best time to travel between November and April. Adzas (talk) 03:37, 27 October 2021 (EDT)
It would be nice to group these UK towns with exception of Cotswolds region. They even are not far each from other. Also, group Harbin with the festival. Really it would be great! Mammoth Cave National Park without any comments is exciting! Evaluate it very positively! India is too large at once, select one city or a maximum of one state. Ryte 27 October 2021
Yes, I meant the park in India that you selected above, or another location in India, not India as a whole. Some great options here, all we need is to choose now.... Adzas (talk)
I have a feeling that we already featured the Cotswolds, so it'd be better to choose one of the towns I mentioned. The Mammoth Cave National Park looks impressive. I don't remember any Indian location featured on the homepage, we could choose one of the big cities or lesser known ones in Southern India such as Pondicherry, Auroville and others. Harbin and the Ice Festival are both very nice. GiulioC (talk) 03:22, 28 October 2021 (EDT)
Pondicherry article has stronger positions, but it needs edition. Can I check dead links and perhaps put something additional or delete dead places? Ryte 28 October 2021
Where disappeared the featuring sign on the upper right corner of the article? It is very helpful! Now wouldn‘t be any doubts about Cotswolds. Ryte 28 October 2021
What sign? GiulioC (talk) 04:09, 29 October 2021 (EDT)
Look for example what the sign Whistler has on the upper right corner of the article. Ryte 29 October 2021
Fixed. GiulioC (talk) 06:08, 29 October 2021 (EDT)
No Giulio, not that. Nothing personal. This one: {{title-icons|dotm-icon}}
Ryte 29 October 2021
But that's exactly what I added. By the way, we're going off topic with this. GiulioC (talk) 08:45, 29 October 2021 (EDT)
Everything is OK. This sign allows to avoid the duplication of featured articles. OK. About 11th theme. Do you have a clear mind of what you are taking? I already made some corrections in Pondicherry. This city is within 5km distance to Auroville, but they both belong to different administrative regions. So, what are you ready to take and what do you need more? Ryte 29 October 2021
Different discussion, but {{title-icons|dotm-icon}} seems to mess up the format of the article, I think we stopped using that when we inserted all the banners, not sure. We could update that page again with past destinations, I'll have a look at that. Adzas (talk) 12:36, 3 November 2021 (EDT)

December 2021 homepage[edit]

Hey, we have only a few days left to choose new locations for our homepage. Share your ideas! GiulioC (talk) 09:50, 25 November 2021 (EST)

All my ideas to offer only 3 towns worth of attention.
Sintra is a small lovely town in Portugal and a popular tourist destination known for its palaces and castles with many hiking paths towards the Atlantic ocean.
Laconia delights by its great lakes area and by a long list of activities. Visit passionate Motor Speedway, Motorcycle Week, Weirs Beach Go-Kart Track, and usually do water sliding in summer or skiing in winter.
Vilches. Make travel to Vilches town at the foot of Andes with great panoramas, foothills flora and fauna preserved at the nature parks. See stunning waterfalls, volcanos, Piedras Tacitas stones, or go hiking on Ufological Route to ancient rock-brick-based plateau Enladrillado.

I will add further input later, but some of the locations from last month can still be an option but the articles need some work (those UK locations, just some pictures maybe?). I will think about the rest... Adzas (talk) 14:21, 25 November 2021 (EST)
I'm afraid we already featured Sintra on homepage. I like Vilches, especially for the UFO landing site which reminds me a bit of Roswell. What about some ski resort? Or some nice location up in the mountains such as Hallstatt or Villach. Also there will be the Winter Olympics in Beijing next february, shall we have an article for it? GiulioC (talk) 03:41, 26 November 2021 (EST)
See Sintra was or not featured, but the sign about I talked earlier, now would be very helpful. If you are ready to beautiful places there would be without any doubt - Hallstatt. What relates to the ski resorts, there could be Chamonix, the location of the first Winter Olympic Games with 5 ski regions, or Zermatt. Enough good looks Cortina d'Ampezzo and Verbier. Also, there is possible to put an article about Alpine skiing. The article about Winter Olympics would be nice! Ryte 26 November 2021
I didn't remember the article about Alpine skiing, very interesting. I can check Cortina article and update it. Chamonix, Zermatt and Verbier are all very nice locations and the articles don't need too much editing as far as I can see. GiulioC (talk) 11:06, 27 November 2021 (EST)
I like Vilches and Hallstatt too! As far as I can see Laconia is more a destination for the summer months, maybe we can use that later... Definitely an article for the Winter Olympics, let's work on that. Adzas (talk) 09:34, 30 November 2021 (EST)
