Tianshui (天水; Tiānshuǐ) is a city in Gansu Province.


Tianshui consists of two main area with an industrial area in between. The eastern area is called Beidao and the western area is called Qincheng. Longcheng Lu connects both sections which lie 18 km apart.

By train[edit]

Tianshui Railway Station (天水火车站; Tiānshuǐ Huǒchēzhàn) is in Beidao District.

  • Lanzhou - takes about 4 hours
  • Urumqi - takes about 28-35 hours
  • Xian - takes about 4 hours
  • Xining - takes about 8 hours/ fast train 2,7 hours
  • Yinchuan - takes about 14 hours

By bus[edit]

Long Distance Bus Station is at Xinhua Road, Qincheng.

  • Gangu - takes about 2 hours
  • Lanzhou - takes about 4 hours
  • Linxia - takes about 10 hours
  • Pingliang - takes about 8 hours
  • Xian - takes about 5-6 hours

Get around[edit]

The number 1 bus connects the two districts. It begins at Qinzhou GongJiao station in the centre of the Qinzhou District with stops along MingZhu road and stops at both train stations in the Maiji District. It's a distinctive yellow bus and departs from the same stop as the 34 bus at the train station.


Muslims mosque located in Da Zhong Zhong Lu, and Halaal foods availabe nearby.

  • Immortals' Cliffs. Temples built under the shelter of an enormous overhanging cliff. Take bus 37 across from Tianshui Train Station cost 7rmb. The ride will take around an hour and will drop you off at an intersection. As of July 2018 the main sight is under construction and the rest of the scenic area isn't worth the 40rmb entrance fee.  edit
  • Maijishan National Park - caves with numerous impressive Buddha carvings on a perpendicular mountain cliff southeast of Tianshan, well-preserved but be prepared to climb stairs. One of the main attractions of the area.

  • Typical of cuisine in Northeast China, noodle shops and stands are very common in Tianshui. In Qincheng, the downtown area and connecting alleys have numerous Muslim noodle shops and street stalls with all types of Halal noodles, dumplings, fried bread, various snacks, and sweet sesame paste-filled balls (tang yuan, 汤圆).
