Template talk:Coordinates

From Wikitravel
Jump to: navigation, search

Please take a look at Wikitravel:Geocoding. There is already a Template:Geo that serves a very similar purpose. If these templates aren't different then this one should probably be recommended for deletion. -- Ryan 12:07, 13 March 2006 (EST)

I wasn't aware that another template was available, although I'm not very impressed with the functionality of the other. This is a personal opinion, however. - Cybjorg 06:22, 14 March 2006 (EST)

VFD Discussion[edit]

  • Delete. Unused template that duplicates the functionality of Template:Geo. -- Ryan • (talk) • 23:23, 3 August 2010 (EDT)
  • Not sure. The functionality is not duplicate at all; Template:Geo displays nothing on the screen and only creates RDF code. Template:Coordinates displays a box within the article that shows the coords and a link to Google Earth. Now, granted, we have no provision in our guidelines for such a feature, but someone at some point thought it might be a good idea. I think I might prefer we discuss whether or not we should make coordinate display more prominent; if we do, this template might be useful. (If we don't, then I would suggest redirecting this to Template:Geo as a useful alias, rather than deleting it.) LtPowers 08:04, 4 August 2010 (EDT)
  • Redirect - I don't think anybody (maybe except a few experts) have any use directly viewing the coordinates in an article. It will only clutter the guide. The information is great to use for other (yet to be developed?) features but the display of the numbers seems useless. Therefore redirect to the RDF-Template Template:Geo and lose this info box. --Sebindi 11:14, 6 August 2010 (EDT)

Result: Redirected. -- Ryan • (talk) • 11:37, 13 August 2010 (EDT)
