Targu Jiu is a city in Oltenia, Romania. It is a very old city and has had a strong tradition of mining, till reent times when most mines have been closed. It is the birth place of the famous sculpture Constantin Brancusi and some of his earliest works can be admired here.
The closest airport is in Craiova and has been implied that there is intention to build another one closer to Targu Jiu at Stanesti.
The city is placed at a crossroads, near the river Jiu, connecting Petrosani and Craviova from North to South through Blvd. Constantin Brancusi and Str. Victoriei(now partialy functioning as a pedestrian area in the City Center); From East to West it is connected to Bucharest and Severin through Calea Bucuresti that becomes Blvd. Unirii once you've got in.
Good connexions from Targu Jiu Station with Bucharest, Craiova, Petrosani, Deva. Expect delays.
There is public transportation that connects the remote parts of the city, but usualy everyting is in a walking distance.

Go on a ride on Transalpina Road, one of the roads of the Carpathian Mountains. It connects Novaci, south of Parâng Mountains, to Sebeş in the north.
