Tanji is a fishing village on the western cost of Gambia in Western Gambia.
In Tanji you can view the whole industry from making boats and nets, catching fish, salting, smoking and freezing fish.

From Banjul: Take a minivan to Westfield for 10 Dalasi, from there take a shared taxi to "Traffic light" for 8 dalasi. From Traffic light take another shared taxi to "turn table", it will cost you 16 Dalasi. When you arrive at the huge petrol station at turntable, turn right and take a minivan for 12 Dalasi to Tanji. The whole journey will take about one hour. From Bakau: take a minivan or a shared taxi to Traffic light for 8 Dalasi. The public transport stops at the end of the craft market, you will see people waiting there. From traffic light follow the instructions above. From Senegambia: Take a shared taxi to turntable for 8 Dalasi. Be sure that you told the driver you want to go by shared taxi, say you don't need a town trip. From turntable follow the instructions above.
You can easily walk around Tanji.
There are also shared taxis driving up and down the main road of tanji. When you live inside the village, it can be hard to walk the two kilometers to the market place because of the heat and the sand roads. So you can always take a shared taxi for 8 Dalasi.
There is a small restaurant on the north side close to the main road. Drinks are GMD 25.
In the morning they are selling the typical tapalapa bread sandwiches at every corner. 7-30 Dalasi, depends on the ingredients.
You can find street food at the market, they are selling fish pies, potatoes and grilled meat, coconut pieces and sandwiches.
